Following on from learning about a new artist, we had an opportunity to practice some collaging using paper from old magazines. We discussed the important of cutting different shapes, overlapping and ensuring we filled in the blank spaces.
Fractions of an amount
In arithmetic, we have been looking at finding fractions of an amount. We looked at both unit and non unit fractions. We were encouraged to use the method which helps to ensure we calculate the correct answer. Some of use moved on to worded problems that required us to use the skills we’d learned.
Art – New Artist
This week we have started our art slice where we will be learning the skills of collage. To start with we have learned about a new artist Jessa Dupuis who is known for her collage work. In addition, we did a quick recap about Waltraud Nawratil who we studied for our painting art slice.
Book Talk – The Last Bear
Today, we completed our book talk lessons which consisted of us unpicking the text and ensuring we understand the vocabulary we’re reading. We had some good discussions about the vocabulary and used different skills to help us understand the meaning and context of the words.
The beat goes on
We have now started our music cases study which we’ve all been excited about. We spent our first lesson looking at musical vocabulary such as beat, pitch, volume and melody.
We then had a go at finding the best in a piece of music which took us a bit of practice but we got there eventually.
Independent writing planning
This morning, we have completed our planning in preparation for writing the rest of the week. This allowed us to collect some good vocabulary, fronted adverbial and ideas so we have a good starting point for writing tomorrow.
Scotties – Team building
This morning on Scotties, we’ve been outside working on our team building. We had engineers and medics who had additional responsibilities to ensure the survival of their team. Some great team work from the Crew.
Crew Challenge
Yesterday morning, we had a crew Challenge where we partnered up. One partner had to give the instructions while the other drew based on the instructions.
When we debriefed, the crew said they found things challenging because of not being able to hear, instructions not being clear or not knowing what they meant. Despite the final images, the crew really enjoyed this activity as you’ll be able to tell from their faces in the pictures.
Inference
In reading, we have been focusing more on inference style questions as this is an area that we need to develop. We have been unpacking the questions and thinking about the skills needed to answer these type of questions.
Case Study Reflection
This afternoon, we have completed our case study reflection for Science. We had the opportunity to reflect on our learning using the rubrics and demonstrate our understanding of what we’ve covered.
