Uno addition

Crew Godley have activated their new unit of maths, addition and subtraction by playing Uno addition. Our first job was to determine whether we would use one or two digit numbers, challenging ourselves. We then selected uno cards at random to add together. The challenge was to complete as many as we could in 5 minutes! We were all successful whilst showing off our quick fire skills.

WW2 Evacuation

Today we explored evacuation in our expeditionary learning, building on the knowledge we already had acquired during hook week. We imagined we were evacuees living in London and how we and our families would feel going on a journey we had no idea how it would end. We had to think carefully about the items we would be able to take and how to transport these. We concluded that our gas mask box and gas mask would be the most important items to ensure we were able to protect ourselves in case of a gas attack.

Our first task was to design a net for a gas mask box, we created miniature gas masks using clay. We thought about how we could make these attractive for younger children to wear, using bright colours. This will be our next task. Our designs are coming along lovely. Watch this space for the finished product.

Magic Musician’s

Crew Godley had their first guitar lesson today and Brett was so impressed by our determination to improve our skills. He said we were naturals! We can’t wait for our lesson next week!

WW2 Wartime Food in Crew Godley

Today we discussed the need for making rations spread further and creating meals from the foods people had available, including those they had grown in the ‘Grow for Victory’ campaign. We explored a range of recipes, looking at the ingredients needed and the method involved. We discussed that as ingredients were rationed, this made the recipes really simple. We worked together to make a wartime foods – carrot cookies, carrot fudge, sweet potato chocolate spread and cauliflower pie. Once we had created our wartime food we discussed how the dishes in WW2 were different to our favourite meals today. The sweet potato chocolate spread certainly didn’t taste as sweet as it does today!
