What an amazing day in Crew Nursery! We have loved seeing all of your fantastic costumes, some of us even got to dress up twice!
We have had so much fun talking about our favourite stories, looking at different books and drawing pictures of āThe Gingerbread Manā.
Crew Nursery have made their own pancakes today! They talked about where the ingredients had come from and they explored them by touching and smelling them. The children watched the ingredients change as they were mixed together and observed safely as the ingredients were cooked in a hot pan.
The children chose their own sauces and toppings before eating their pancakes. Chocolate sauce with banana and a sprinkling of icing sugar was the crewās favourite topping!
Crew Nursery = Star Bakers!
As part of Case Study 3, Crew Nursery are answering the question, āHow can you be a maker like me?ā
This week, the children are going to be bakers who make delicious sweet treats! Yesterday, after reading āThe Gingerbread Manā, the children explored various collage materials and used them to design their own Gingerbread Men. In provision, they also used role play and small world resources to reenact the story and take on the role of bakers in the play dough, sand and role play areas. We canāt wait to see and smell their very own delicious Gingerbread Men later in the week…
In the first week of Spring Term 2, the children in Crew Nursery finished answering their case study 2 question, āHow do you build a community?ā They looked at the different roles of people in Carcroft village and they talked about how some people help to keep us safe. The children dressed up as police officers, lollipop wardens, nurses and builders and talked about their own aspirations for the future. They also took on the roles of rubbish collectors and police officers in the small world area. The children discussed road safety whilst drawing maps of their village and they created their own traffic lights and zebra crossings using a repeating pattern. Crew nursery finished the week by making pledges to keep their community safe by putting litter in the bins.Ā
The children in nursery have been making pledges to look after the resources in their classroom and keep their learning spaces tidy this week. Archie, Lincoln and Ralphie have been showing stewardship by organising and tidying the construction area, even when they havenāt been working in there. We are proud of them and they are proud of their āIām Being Kindā stickers.
Crew nursery have been learning to plan and design buildings this week! They have designed their own buildings and thought carefully about how they could make them interesting. Some children added slides and flag poles while others included a swimming pool! The children thought about the shape of the windows on their buildings, with some opting to have circular windows like those that are seen on pirate ships!
Crew Nursery have been retelling the story of āThe Three Little Pigsā in their very own puppet theatre! They used loud, clear voices to ensure that their audience could hear them and they remembered the key phrases from the story well.
āLittle pig, little pig, let me come in…..ā
Some of the children in crew nursery have been busy planning and building tunnels for their construction vehicles. The children thought carefully about the shape and size of the bricks that they needed and they worked together to make strong and safe tunnels that were big enough to fit their vehicles inside. The children needed to change and adapt their tunnels as they tried to fit bigger vehicles inside. They worked well as a crew, listening to each otherās ideas and suggestions.
The children have continued to work on case study one of their expedition āEarly years engineers, in a world of possibilities what would you makeā.
They have focused in on the three little pigs story and the different materials the three pigs used to build and create their houses.
The children worked together to recreate the three pigs houses using the different materials before looking closely at properties and what made each material the pigs used special and unique.
We found in FS2, the material wood was strong and hard but when compared to bricks, bricks were heavy and difficult to move. Hence why the big bad wolf had trouble blowing the third house down. We all agreed bricks were a great building material.
We used different painting techniques to recreate the three houses and noticed if we used everyday objects to paint with we could create beautiful work in new ways.
During crew sessions we pledged to listen more closely to each other while also thinking about the emotions of the crew. This supported us with our expedition story retelling as we used these discussions to support our acting. We used quiet, shaky voices when pretending to be the three pigs and used gruff angry voices when pretending to be the big bad wolf.
We canāt wait to continue this story next week. 😊🐷
