This week in Crew Tucker… 17/9/21

We have had another brilliant week in Crew Tucker and we are going from strength to strength as the weeks progress and we become more settled and used to being back in school.

This week we have continued with our poetry writing in English and have grappled with rhyming words to create our own versions of the poem, ‘The Dragon Who Ate Our School’. The children have created some brilliant pieces and collaborated well to critique their work and improve.

We also had one our favourite ever experience days, where we re-enacted raiding Lindisfarne. This was such an awesome experience after we learned about the variety of reasons the Vikings came to settle in Doncaster. This helped us answer our Guiding Question further, Coming to Doncaster; why then and why now? The pictures below will give you a sense of what the children experienced but being in then hall and witnessing it first hand was truly special. A big thank you to our brilliant Phase Crew who worked so hard to put this together for the children!

Our HOWL average this week was 3.5. This is a brilliant score and has improved from last week showing how hard the children are working to improve.

Enjoy your long weekend everyone! We will see you bright and early Tuesday morning.

TWITP – LKS2 (17.9.21)

It’s been another fantastic week in Crew LKS2! We have loved building our fluency up in reading this week, as we tackled our book How to be a Viking.

Crew Fox blog w/c 13.9.21

This week, we’ve learned all about the train experts in our history case study. Throughout expedition, we’ve used ICT and secondary resources to research into the lives and work of James Watt, Sir Nigel Gresley, George Stephenson and Richard Trevithik. Crew Fox have created informative posters to share their findings about their chosen expert!

We are beginning to grasp all the rules of direct speech… there’s a lot to remember! We have worked hard and tried our best to create sentences using speech linking to the film clip Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, ready to start our first plot point next week. Watch out for Crew Fox sentence stackers!

Next week we will be immersed into our history with an experience day linking to the Industrial Revolution… watch this space for photos and videos!

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Mrs Fox

Crew MI 17.9.21

We have had another productive week in Crew MI. We have made a fantastic start to our narrative in writing lessons, using direct speech, varied openers and description. We have started producing our sentence stacking display in the classroom using children’s ideas from their own writing. We can’t wait to get more sentences on there as we progress through our plot points. Our reading lessons have also been great, children are continuing to show great enthusiasm for our class text and are really exploring character feelings, vocabulary and thinking about using the text to back up our answers. Children have also been working hard in maths lessons, rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. We are still working on building our crew and we are continuing to think about kindness and ensuring we demonstrate this together.
