This Week in the Phase: KS1

Check out all of our exciting adventures from the first week back of the new school year!

We’ve had a Hero hook day, explored indoor and outdoor provision and got stuck in with our learning!

Crew SB – 3/9/21

First week back…not a problem for our new year 5’s. It has been lovely having the children back in school. They have blown us away with how quickly they have settled back into school life.

This week has involved lots of book lessons to engage the children in their new expedition. On Wednesday, we spent a day at Hogwarts and had lessons in the Defences against the dark arts, Transfiguration, Quidditch and Potions. This allowed the children an opportunity to work with others In the phase. Some great learning happened and the children spoke positively about the activities.

Thursday was art day which focused on watercolours. They learned a range of techniques and then had the opportunity to explore using them. These skills were then used to produce a small art piece. We were very impressed with the quality.

We are really looking forward to getting into our normal timetable next week and then our trip to Harry Potter World.

Have a fantastic weekend. 😁

This week in Crew Tucker… 3/9/21

This week has been our first week together as Crew Tucker and it has certainly been one to remember!

We have spent this week delving into our first expedition, ‘Coming to Doncaster; why then and why now?’ and our first case study which aims to answer the question, ‘Why did the Vikings come to Doncaster?’. Our Hook Week has involved lots of exciting activities: developing our artistic skills using clay to create dragon eyes and sketching dragons; becoming performers of dragon poetry; cooking using viking recipes and being detectives to investigate a mystery visitor who created havoc in the school hall and forest school!

Watch the video below to get a feel for yourselves for all the fun we have had this week.

Time and time again, the children have blown us all away with their positive attitudes, exemplary behaviour and excitement to learn new things; we can’t wait to watch them grow and develop further throughout the school year and will continue to share our learning with you on our blog.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Crew Longley Weekly Review

What a great week we have had. It certainly feels like our little crew is bonding and finding our feet and confidence. I have really been blown away by their determination, excitement and characters this week.

This week we started looking at our expedition – ‘What can I do to be a hero in my community?’ We have enjoyed our hook week (photos will be in our this week in the phase video). We learnt a poem, made our own superheroes, became cartoon heroes and trained to become heroes. The children looked amazing in their costumes and smiles galore filled the room.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday. Have a great weekend.
Mr Longley, Miss Holdsworth and Mrs Brown.
