Locating local rivers 🔍

This afternoon, we used maps and iPads to locate the rivers in Doncaster and the UK. We really enjoyed finding the River Don that runs through Doncaster and then expanding our search to finding rivers in the UK finding other well known rivers such as Thames, Severn, Ouse and Humber.

Book Talk – Monday

Today we started our new book ”The Rhythm of the Rain”. First, we completed a jigsaw of the front cover and then we unpicked the title and blurb. We had a fantastic class discussion where we identified the audience, purpose and genre of the book. We are so excited to start and read this book tomorrow. 📖📚

Reading in the library!

Crew Thompson love visiting the library every Friday afternoon! We love changing our old book and having a browse for a new book to read at home! When we have chosen our new book (or carrying on with the book we currently have) we love to find a comfy spot to read before heading back to our crew. We love Library Fridays!!📚💕

First aid training

This morning, Crew Thompson attended first aid training where we learnt all about choking and burns. We learnt about the two different types of choking and what we had to do when someone was choking. We practiced giving 5 back slaps and 5 abdominal thrusts to the choking person. We also learnt how we should treat burns and who we should call in an emergency.

World Ocean Day!

Today in Crew Thompson, we celebrated World Ocean Day! World Oceans Day is all about protecting the ocean. A healthy planet needs a healthy ocean, but our waters face huge risks from overfishing, climate change, and plastic pollution. Luckily, we can help! We came up with lots of great ways to protect our oceans such as: recycling, picking up our litter and not using as much plastic.

Experience day!

Today we started our new writing block with an experience lesson. First, we completed a jigsaw of the front cover and blurb of our new book “Flood”. Then, the children took part in a silent conversation. They annotated the photos from the book with what they noticed, how they might feel and what actions might be happening. The children came up with some fantastic ideas and I was blown away with what they noticed! They even came up with some interesting wonders based on the pictures in the book! I can’t wait to see the ideas they come up with when we start to write our narrative!

Fiction or non fiction?

Today in our book talk reading lesson we looked at the features of fiction and non fictions books. We worked in pairs to group the features and had a fantastic discussion around them. We linked them to previous books we have read and our class shared read.

Carcroft Newsroom!

Welcome to Carcroft Newsroom!

This week, children in Crew Thompson have been writing their own scripts about the recent earthquakes that happened in Turkey and Syria. Today, children had lots of fun performing these in front of the the green screen! I was really impressed with how hard the children worked and how they had lots of courage and determination to perform these. Keep up the fab work!

Fantastic Fossils!

Today, we looked at what fossils are and the process of fossil formation. First, we made our own fossils in modelling clay. We found this really interesting and loved seeing the patterns appear in the clay. We then worked in mini crews to order the process of fossil formation.
