Bear sandwiches in Crew Nursery!

The children have made their own bear sandwiches today using bananas and chocolate spread. They first had to spread the chocolate using the knife and then cut the banana into three pieces to create a bears face. We counted 2 pieces of banana for the bears eyes and 1 piece of banana for the bears nose. The children then enjoyed their creations. They were very tasty!

Focussed writing in MI

Today we continued to plan and write our non chronological report. Today we finished off our gravity section and started to think about the facts we wanted in our fact boxes. We are looking forward to adding the work we have produced to our A3 spread.

Leading our own learning in provision

We’ve had lots of fun leading our own learning in provision today! We’ve explored using the paints to create bear pictures, built castles in the small world area, and explored the shaving foam in the tuff tray! We used our describing words to talk about how the foam felt and what it reminded us of. Penelope and Aubree decided that when you squeezed it between your fingers, it felt like the oozy mud from the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. We then decided to use the shaving foam to make patterns to show each other the types of fireworks we had seen over the weekend. It was very exciting!

Super mathematicians in Y1

Today we discovered if we work hard then it makes us feel so proud of ourselves. Today in maths I was so proud of our little crew 😊 We introduced addition and how we can use the part, whole, model to support this. obviously, working with smarties helped a lot 😋 The children blew me away with their language around addition, we’d remembered so much already after exploring this briefly last half term.

Celebration of Learning KS1

Let’s Build!!

The children celebrated their learning with their parents, explaining to their grownups ‘What lies within the castle walls’.

During the celebration of learning we set our grown ups a challenge! To create a catapult which fired the furthest, it was so much fun working together! Alissia and her Dad built an amazing catapult which used some incredible power to launch her boulder all the way across the playground!

Litter Picking – Crew Shields

Tomorrow afternoon, the children will be spending a short time outside to support the school community to keep the area safe and tidy.

It has been rather wet recently so it may be beneficial for them to bring a spare pair of shoes/trainers where it doesn’t matter if they get a bit muddy.

Thank you

Mirror Mirror

I love the Crew activities that Mrs Rhodes challenges us to on a Tuesday. Today the children had to work with a partner to decide how they would get from one side of the playground to the other. Sounds easy enough, however, they had to be in sync with each other and mirror each others moves. There were lots of giggle this morning as children collaborated on how they would complete the task. Some fantastic speaking and listening happening between the pairs. We had some children doing the crab, ballet, skipping and even cartwheels. Lots of fun had by all.

Multistep Maths

Oh the brains in Crew Shields were tested this morning. We have finished up our addition and subtraction unit with multistep problems. This is an area that children can find tricky as there is more to think about to ensure they arrive at the correct answer. It was great seeing them get stuck in and challenge themselves. Good job everyone!

A busy day in MI

We started our day with our caring curriculum in Crew. Here we thought about friendship and what makes a good friendship.

We also made a start on our non chronological reports in writing and started to think about our gravity sections. We thought about the subheading and built our sentences using our gold and green targets. Tomorrow we will finish our chunk 2 then edit and improve our work. We are also looking forward to building an interesting fact box which we hope will engage our reader further.

In maths we thought about mixed numbers and improper fractions and converted between both. We built an anchor chart together before applying to our books. We then looked at subtracting fractions!

Some great work in MI today! 🙂
