Today, Y2 have been exploring how and why Jewish people celebrate Shabbat. We discovered that Shabbat is the Jewish Day of Rest. Shabbat happens each week from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday. During Shabbat, Jewish people remember the story of creation from the Torah. Jews have a lot of jobs to do on the Friday evening to prepare for Shabbat.

Who is a Jew and what do they believe?
KS1 have begun their new unit in RE, exploring who is a Jew and what do they believe? We explored what items were precious to Jews, for example, The Star of David, The Torah and the Menorah. Oliver suggested that the Torah may tell us stories as the bible does. We discovered that Jews only believe in one God, as do Christians.

Decisions, decisions, decisions… ♱⛪💕
In RE, today we have been thinking about ‘WWJD’ – What Would Jesus Do? We understand that many Christians follow this daily in their practice and even wear jewellery such as bracelets and necklaces to remind them of this, as well as to help them to work out different situations that are tempting or difficult as well as challenging dilemmas.
In Crew Boswell, we discussed why Christians may do this and how it might help them to live their daily lives and make the right choices and avoid temptation. We further discussed how Christians also use resources such as The Bible and Prayer to support them with challenging aspects that appear in day to day life.
We then looked at some different scenarios in groups and thought about the right and wrong thing to do and ultimately What Would Jesus Do (WWJD), what would modern day Christians do and what we would do in each situation. We had some interesting discussions and it certainly made us reflect on our behaviours. At the end of the session pupils shared that they had learnt to ‘think before I act’, ‘treat others as I would want to be treated’, ‘help others in need even if we aren’t friends’, ‘be kind’, ‘do what’s right’. It was a great session and we all learnt something!

Why do we pray?
Today we have continue with our religious education no we discovered why people pray. This included worshipping God, asking for his support as well as looking at different types of prayers. To end the lesson, we wrote our own individual prayers.

What is Sikhism and who do they believe in?
In RE, we discussed the religion Sikhism. We discovered that it is the fifth largest religion in the world and it has 10 Sikh gurus. The ten Sikh Gurus were the first ten leaders of Sikhism, founded in India. They include Guru Nanak, Guru Angad, Guru Amar, Guru Ram Das, Guru Arjan, Guru Hargobind, Guru Har Rai, Guru Har Krishan, Guru Teg Bahadur, and Guru Gobind Singh.

What is love? 💕
Today, in Crew Boswell, during our RE lesson we began to think about what love really is. We began the session by looking at some popular quotes from the Bible such as, ‘love is patient, love is kind’ that often people share at Christian celebrations in churches such as weddings. These quotes really got us thinking about what love is, who we love, what love looks like, what difference loves makes to us, the community and the wider world, as well as what love isn’t. We shared our thoughts around love and recorded these ‘What love means to Crew Boswell’. We then each created a heart to show what we thought love was using drawings and writing.

RE in Crew Boswell
Today in RE, we learnt more about Jesus’ values and what impact they potentially have in the 21st Century. We discussed quotes and mission statements from Jesus and interpreted what we thought they meant. Some of the vocabulary was tricky but we worked as a crew to understand this. To finish we discussed our school mission and linked this to our HoWLs ‘Work Hard, Get Smart and Be Kind’ and discussed how we could make this world a better place.

Diwali 🪔
This week in KS1 we have been we’ve been learning all about the Hindu festival of light – Diwali! We’ve explored how Diwali is celebrated through looking at photographs and videos, this morning in Crew we made our own Diwali baubles to celebrate 🎉

Diwali!
This week in Crew MW, we’ve been learning all about the Hindu festival of light – Diwali! We’ve explored how Diwali is celebrated through looking at photographs and videos, and we have seen that they set off fireworks as part of their celebrations, just like we do on Bonfire Night!

After we had looked at our photos and the videos, we had an exciting visitor! Miss Shelley came in to do a Diwali dance workshop with us all! We had so much fun and learnt lots of new dance moves!

After our Diwali dancing, we looked at Diva Lamps and thought about how we could make these out of clay. We rolled the clay into a ball, squashed it down and then used the end of a rolling pin to make indentations for the candle. Once we had shaped the lamps, we used the clay tools to create patterns on them. We can’t wait for them to dry out so that we can paint them!

In provision, we have also been using the beads, pasta and coloured sand to make Rangoli patterns! We’ve loved learning all about Diwali!

Quiz Time!
Today we consolidated our unit on the Christian faith. We loved the Kahoot quiz and we were top of the class with everything we had remembered! We can wait to see which religion we will study next!
