In our final arithmetic assessment of the term we finally had our first 40/40! We have so many children now in the 30s and close to also achieving 40. Y6 keep smashing it and making us proud!

This week in Magic Maths, we are learning to count in 2s to 30. Today we practiced counting in 2s and finding the missing number on the number bunting. We found a pattern with doubling and that all the numbers are even.
In maths today, we read the story ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. We used the language, ‘over’, ‘under’ and ‘through’ to describe what the characters were doing. After we learnt the vocabulary, we built the story using small world resources and showed how the characters moved through the story, using our new vocabulary to describe what they were doing. We then placed our peg dolls around the classroom and used language like, ‘on top of’, ‘underneath’, ‘inside’ and ‘next to’ to describe where the peg dolls were.
In Crew Pashley, our superstar of the week is Charlie! Charlie has been working hard in maths this week and even asked to do extra questions. Me and Mrs Brown are so proud of him for wanting to get smart.
Crew MW explored a mystery box this morning in outdoor provision…We began by predicting what might be in the box. Some of us thought there might be a giant teddy in there, or a pirate, or maybe even a unicorn! But what we found was some giant polydron pieces! We had lots of fun working together to build using the polydrons outside! We created a house and a tunnel with a trap door and we followed Miss Welburn’s instructions and positional language carefully to make the structures. We even worked out how to rotate the shapes around to make them fit together. The best part was pretending to be the Big Bad Wolf and the Three Little Pigs! We huffed, and we puffed, and we blew the house down! 🐷🐷🐷🐺
Crew MW were exploring finding one more in maths this morning! We listened to a song about elephants and showed how many elephants there were using our cubes. Each time a new elephant joined, we used our cubes to show one more! We noticed that every time we added one more, our tower got bigger because the numbers were getting bigger.
In maths today, Crew MW have been listening carefully to the amount of sounds that they heard and counting these into their five frames. They used the objects to represent the numbers and talked about how many squares were full and how many were empty. I’m really impressed with how hard all of the children worked and how smart they were getting with representing their numbers!
Our timestable rockstar day ended with quite the battle! Crews battled against each other to gather points in the hope their crew would make it to the final! There was great encouragement by all and it was lovely to see the improvements in our timestable knowledge! A big well done to everyone that took part 🙂 A big shout out to Crew Boswell who made it to the final! And to the 2 children who beat Mrs Ibbotson!
Crew MW have been exploring repeating patterns this week in maths. We have copied patterns, continued patterns and made our own patterns using cubes, vehicles and natural resources around provision. We even challenged ourselves to spot the mistake in Miss Welburn’s patterns!
Today we started to unpick our arithmetic test from last week, working on some of the questions we answered incorrectly.
