Denominations

Year 5/6 have been learning about the different denominations that have evolved from Christianity over the years. Although, they have the same Jewish core beliefs, they worship God in slightly different ways based on their leaders interpretations of the bible.

At the end of the lesson, we revisited the story of Creation and about Adam and Eve as children were unfamiliar with this bible story and how Christian’s believe the world was created.

Roman Gods and Goddesses in History

Today in Crew Colclough we learned that Romans believed in more than one God/ Goddess and we started to explore 8 of them in today’s lesson. We had to move around the room and copy the name and role of the God/Goddess onto our sheet. Mrs Atherton then challenged us by asking us to memorise 3 of them and their roles and then copy these into our books using Capital Letters for Nouns and beautiful handwriting. We worked incredibly hard today to remember this information.

PVPG

Today was our final PVPG lesson and I was extremely impressed by how much the children have learnt and remembered from Year 2. It can’t wait to see what we can achieve together in writing this year!

Tinkering with Scratch

Year started a new unit in computing this week which will be starting to explore the coding programme Scratch. Children had the opportunity to explore the different blocks, starting to build a code and changing their background and sprite. Before we ended the lesson, some children shared their code with the rest of the class on the big screen.

Making variables

In computing this weel, year 4 were continuing with variables but this week they were making variables and adding to the code we used last week. Once they got the hang of it, children started to expand their maths games by adding additional questions to the code. Children really had to grapple with this and be resilient to ensure that they were successful.

Year 4 Litter Picking

We headed outside to tidy up the Year 1 area, making it a clean and pleasant space for the younger students. They worked diligently, picking up loose leaves and stray litter, and organising the outdoor toys and equipment. By taking on the task of tidying the space, the children demonstrated responsibility and a shared commitment to keeping their school environment tidy.

Being Artists

We have loved being artists just like Dennis Creffield, we have been using charcoal to start creating our artwork. We firstly practiced by drawing the school using lines and shapes.

We then applied this to our final artwork, creating mood from the tissue paper for the fire and drawing 19th century houses with charcoal.

Staff Day Crew Challenge

Just as we expect our children to work together, communicate effectively, and adapt with creativity, we placed ourselves in the same position. What is good enough for the children is good enough for us – showing that crew culture is for everyone, not just pupils.

Our Carcroft Crew Bake Off brought teamwork to life, with everyone taking on a role and responsibility to make it a success. Clear communication and smooth handovers proved essential, while creativity and adaptability helped turn simple recipes into something special. Most importantly, the challenge reminded us that fun, shared activities strengthen crew spirit, boost morale, and highlight the power of collaboration.
