During the lead up to phonics the children will be mastering the foundational skills needed to learn their sounds. During this lesson the children are learning all about the sounds around them, tapping out the rhythmic patterns they can hear in nursery songs, and practicing how to Fred some simple cvc words with a touch of musical fun. They were also amazing at matching the sound level from quite to loud well done crew Frost!
Last week our crew walked to the school library to enjoy reading and exploring different types of books. There was so many to choose from!
This week in phonics we focused on letter formation and blending. The children were very engaged in our phonics learning while using cars and paint to form the letters. The children also used cars to consolidate their understanding around blending, whilst avoiding a parking ticket…
Our new book for expedition is ‘The three little pigs’. The children have been reading the story and learning the sequencing. We have looked at the different types of materials the houses were made with and which is strong enough to withstand the big bad wolf!
This week the children have been practicing their blending and letter formation. The children loved the different textures and forming letters with different mediums.
I would just like to praise these children for their continued progression when learning their sounds. Some even started Year 1 still learning Set 1 sounds and are now nearly at the end of their Set 3 sounds! Their love for learning really does shine through and we are so proud of you! Keep up the great work. Fred the Frog is so impressed!
The children have been working super hard on their writing skills. Now in a morning they write their names, numbers to 10, and now affirmation sentences. They have been amazing at recalling the properties of a sentence such as adding a full stop at the end. Well done crew F2.
In expedition, we read ‘Paddington and the grand tour’ and talked about how Paddington was excited to visit lots of landmarks in London on an open top tour bus.
We worked as a crew to create our own open top tour bus, with Hayden as our bus driver! We then took it in turns to sit with our friends in a cafe and shared cakes, just like Paddington did. Finally, we built a beautiful palace, similar to Buckingham Palace which was a stop on the tour bus.
Last week in Crew F2, we went on a hunt for the bear that had been in our classroom! We walked through the swishy grass, through the cold river, we stumbled through the forest, and we swirled and whirled in the snowstorm! Eventually, we got to a narrow, gloomy cave! We crawled through and spotted a bear! We were very glad that we had our teddies with us to help us to feel safe.
We started our week by having a pyjama day! We also brought our favourite teddies into school with us and they spent the day finding out about what we get up to at school. We did a bear themed movement break and we really enjoyed lying down and snuggling our teddies whilst listening to ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. We sat with our teddies at snack time and got a lovely surprise when we realised it wasn’t a fruit snack… it was a special chocolate biscuit! We had a lovely day!
