In Crew Gray, we have been learning about the ‘to be’ verbs. We worked together to look at some sentences to identify the ‘to be’ verbs which were am, is, are, was, were or will be.

This week crew Frost have been introduced to the early writing programme Squiggle While You Wiggle, this programme offers the first steps to build their fine and gross motor movements. The programme also encourages mark making with meaning whilst incorporating dance, uses of materials, and just lots of fun! We can not wait to see what fine motor skills will develop over the next few weeks.

During our first computing lesson today, we began by talking about what coding is and why coding was used during the war. We then had some time to work in pairs to break some different cipher codes; some involve moving letters around the alphabet while others have hidden items within the text.

Today crew Frost have been starting their learning journey on the colour monster. We have began to recreate the confused monster whilst using creative materials to express our thoughts on what it means to be confused. Crew Frost had outstanding fine motor control when painting him! Well done crew Frost!

As part of our hook into our new expedition, the children had the opportunity to design and create their own Roman coins out of clay. They carefully considered the symbols and designs used by the Romans and thought about what might be important to feature on their own coins.

KS2 have had an amazing day at Murton Park immersing themselves into life as Romans. We have made oil lamps, learnt Latin, joined the Roman Army and fought the Celts.
The children conducted themselves so well and we are extremely proud of them all.
Hopefully everything we have learned today we can build on over the course of our expedition as we learn more about the Romans and why they decided to come to Doncaster.

Crew Haddock have being practicing the months of the year and they did amazing. This is one of our life skills

To bring Hook Week to a close, before revealing our guiding question, UKS2 took part in a Virtual Reality experience that immersed them into the rainforest. They got to look at each layer of the rainforest as if walking around it and come face to face with some of the animals that live there including sloths, tarantulas, capuchin monkeys and jaguars. Throughout this experience, the guide was sharing his wide range of knowledge with the children which they were fully engaged with listening to. What a fantastic experience!

The first guiding question the children are going to investigate is “Not all hero’s wear capes. How can I be a hero in my local community?” The first hero which we’re looking at is a Fire Fighter. Crew Barber have started their first week in year 1 by getting creative in making their own Tudor style houses to replicate the buildings which caught alight in the Great Fire of London, we then set our houses on fire so we could see how quick the fire spread. After watching fire safety talks the children then chose to dress up and engage in role play during their outdoor breaktime, acting out scenarios and having a great time!
