Investigating Shadows

Crew Hamill spent time today exploring how shadows are formed. Once we’d worked out that shadows are formed by opaque objects blocking a light source, we experimented to see how we could change these shadows. We identified that when an object was closer to the light source, the shadow was larger as more of it was blocked and when the object was further away, the shadow was smaller as there was less of it being blocked.

Exploring Shadows!

Today, in Crew Wilkinson we conducted a science experiment to explore how the size of a showdown changes based on the distance of an object from a light source. We observed that when the object was closer to the light, the shadow appeared larger, and as the light source moved further away the shadow became smaller.WE LOVE SCIENCE!

I would just like to praise these children for their continued progression when learning their sounds. Some even started Year 1 still learning Set 1 sounds and are now nearly at the end of their Set 3 sounds! Their love for learning really does shine through and we are so proud of you! Keep up the great work. Fred the Frog is so impressed!

Writing Money as Decimals

Crew Hamill kick-started their money unit by exploring different amounts of money and ensuring we knew how to write them correctly with a pound sign and decimal point. We took part in a carousel of activities:

  1. Table 1 – Select a card, write the amount on the card in decimals.
  2. Table 2 – Money problems – choose a question, solve, repeat.
  3. Table 3 – Physical money – dip your hand into the box to pull out 3 amounts (coins or notes). Write your total in decimals.

Independent Writing In Crew Hamill

Crew Hamill have worked extremely hard over the last few days to complete their independent write. We began with a recap of our grammar, ensuring we can still label the verb, subject and everything else in our sentences to ensure they are punctuated correctly. We then used a stimulus of a short film, Francis to create a descriptive piece of writing. We have chotted ideas together as a crew in order to complete a setting description of where Francis is as well as a character description of Francis herself. We have then used the resources available to us – word banks, chotting sheets and pictures – to write our descriptions.

Red Nose Day Fun!

To celebrate Red Nose Day, our school turned fundraising into a splash of fun! Mr Williamson bravely faced the challenge of being squirted with red paint, all in the name of raising money for a great cause. Laughter and a whole lot of red made it an afternoon to remember! Thank you to everyone who joined in and supported.
