Today, we were very lucky to take part in a wonderful experience brought to us by M&M productions, The Jungle Book. Many of us knew the story of Mowgli and it was fantastic to see the story brought to life!
Water Safety
This afternoon, we were very lucky to be part of a live talk with Yorkshire water about the importance of being safe near water. The main messages were to stay away from the edge and ensuring that we don’t try to go in after someone who is having difficulty. It’s important that we call for help and don’t put ourselves into danger.
Telling the Time
In maths last week, we had a practical lesson where we were able to use the clocks to start discussing how to tell time. It was modelled each of the times and then we had an opportunity to apply this with our own clocks.
Worded problems
In Arithmetic last week, we went through how to answer a range of worded problems. We discussed the key words and which operation we’d need to do to answer the question.
Comparing how people pray
In RE, we have been comparing the way Christians, Hindus and Islam pray. We compared different prayers from each religion but realized that although different religions, they pray for similar purposes.
Handwriting
Over the last few weeks we’ve been working in small groups so we can practice and start refining out handwriting. Some of us are focusing on ensuring we’re starting on the line and making small tweaks to improve our handwriting whereas others are going back to ensuring we are forming our letters accurately and using the correct joins.
Do all liquids evaporate at the same rate?
Last week it was time to conduct our next experiment which allowed us to discover whether all liquids evaporate at the same rate.
Before starting the experiment, we made a prediction about whether we though they would or not. It was great seeing children making reference to the viscosity and how this would impact the rate it evaporates.
Once we made out predictions, we set up the experiment and observed the changes over the next few days.
Book Talk
In our reading lessons last week, we focused heavily on vocabulary and understanding this in context. This is a skill we’ve been working hard on throughout the year as we come across words we’re unfamiliar with in the text. This allows children to fully comprehend the text when we’re reading.
Class Read – The Dragon with a Chocolate Heart
Last week, we finished our class read which is a book that is read to us by our crew leader. We have really enjoyed this book and the messages it gave us about friendship and believing in ourselves.
Computing – animation
After returning from half term, we had an opportunity to work more independently on the skills we practiced before half term. Before half term, we were asked to create an animation however, this was something we’d very little experience with it so depended on the expert.
In this session, children were able to complete the task with minimal support showing they had learned how to successfully put the blocks together to create an animation.
