Christmas Fun! 🎅🏼🎄✨🫶🏻

We have had LOTS of Christmas fun in Crew MW!

For most of us, it was our very first school Christmas dinner! We loved seeing the hall festively decorated and we really enjoyed our dinner! Thank you to all the lunch time staff who did a great job! We took our pudding back to the classroom and enjoyed it whilst watching a Christmas film.

We also enjoyed our Christmas Party Day! We played lots of fun games that included a LOT of dancing, as well as pass the parcel. Once we were party gamed out, we sat down to enjoy our party food. Again, thank you to the lunch time staff for our yummy food!

Maths in Crew MW 🧮🟢🔺

Some recent maths learning that has been taking place in Crew MW.

Sorting shapes – circle or triangle? We discussed what makes a circle a circle and what makes a triangle a triangle. We then used these descriptions to decide whether the shapes needed to go in the circle group or the triangle group. We then investigated items around the classroom and found examples of circles and triangles.

Finding 1 less – how do we know? We talked about finding 1 less and how this meant we would end up with a smaller amount. We created towers of 5 blocks and removed blocks 1 at a time to find 1 less than our starting number. We then checked how many were left by counting them. We got really confident as predicting what we thought 1 less than our starting number would be!

Composing 4 and 5 – how can we make different numbers? We looked at how numbers can help us make other numbers. We investigated different ways we could make the number 4 and the number 5 by putting small world pieces into 2 baskets and seeing how many were in each basket (parts) and then seeing how many we had altogether (whole). We worked really well together to talk about how we could move the pieces between the baskets, how many we had in each and then predicted our whole before using our counting skills to check our answer. We then really challenged ourselves and added a third basket!

Crew MW’s nativity!

Crew MW performed their version of the Nativity on Thursday last week! They did a fantastic job in both their dress rehearsal and in their performance to parents on Thursday and we are really proud of them all! You’ll all be receiving a QR code to the video of our dress rehearsal with KS1 as our audience at the end of the day so that you can enjoy the nativity at home and share with family members who may not have been able to make it. Have a lovely Christmas! 🎅🏻

Crew MW’s first drafts for our Christmas artwork

Crew MW spent time today looking at our first drafts for our Christmas cards. We had a look at the example and began using our critique to talk about it…We noticed that our example had lots of bright colours in, but we wondered if our cards could include some of favourite colours.

After we had talked about what we were going to create, we begun our first drafts. We started by drawing our twirly wire for the lights, and then mixed our colours and used our fingers to print the lights onto the wire.

Once our first drafts were completed, we used a gallery walk to have a look at each others. We loved giving each other praises about our beautiful work and we loved talking about what we would do differently when we make our cards.

Beautiful work over the last 2 weeks!

It has been lovely finding out what children have been working on across school. Well done to all the children who have shared their beautiful work with me over the last 2 weeks. Some fantastic work 🙂

Using our prepositional language in maths

In maths today, we read the story ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. We used the language, ‘over’, ‘under’ and ‘through’ to describe what the characters were doing. After we learnt the vocabulary, we built the story using small world resources and showed how the characters moved through the story, using our new vocabulary to describe what they were doing. We then placed our peg dolls around the classroom and used language like, ‘on top of’, ‘underneath’, ‘inside’ and ‘next to’ to describe where the peg dolls were.
