World Cup Blog

Dear parents and carers,

As I am sure many of you are aware, the world cup is fast approaching. We know that there is controversy surrounding the hosts of this and that there are some issues regarding Qatar. Many of our students are asking whether we will be watching the England match next week.  The purpose of this letter is to clarify our position around the controversy and what we intend to do with students to support their education in regards to this.

It is important that we share the concern regarding the ongoing human rights record in Qatar. As a school, we have activism as a pillar of our curriculum and know it is important that as citizens of the UK we support our pupils in learning how to respectfully fight for what they believe is right. At the heart of our education, we teach our pupils the importance of having choice and valuing the choices they have in the UK.

We will have special crew sessions next week planned to ensure that pupils are aware, at their sensitive level of understanding,  of what the controversy is about and we are using this as an opportunity to continue to develop children’s understandings of British Values.

On Tuesday 29th November, school will have a non uniform day where children can come dressed in their football/England shirts, however this is not essential as we understand some parents may be opting out of watching the World Cup this year.

Hula hoop challenge in Crew Nursery.

The children worked hard as a crew to get the hula hoop around the circle without letting go of each other’s hands. They had to bend down low to allow their heads to pass through the hoop and then stand up tall to step through the hoop with their feet. It was very tricky, but by talking to each other we did it!

Miss Ferguson was so proud of all of us for trying so hard to work together. Well done Crew Nursery.

Bear sandwiches in Crew Nursery!

The children have made their own bear sandwiches today using bananas and chocolate spread. They first had to spread the chocolate using the knife and then cut the banana into three pieces to create a bears face. We counted 2 pieces of banana for the bears eyes and 1 piece of banana for the bears nose. The children then enjoyed their creations. They were very tasty!

Fireworks in Nursery!

The children this morning used their fine motor skills to create fire works in the tough tray. We spoke about all the different sounds the children are going to hear on Bonfire night. The children loved making lots of firework noises and we pretended we were the different fireworks by shouting loud bangs for rockets and being crackling little Roman candles. They are all very excited for Saturday!

Name recognition in Crew Nursery.

The children have been working super hard today in Crew Nursery. They have practiced finding their first name from a selection and then had a go at writing their initial sound using shaving foam. They have loved the experience. We found that it was easier to write using our finger and the shaving foam felt lovely on our hands. Well done everyone. You have really tried hard to get smart today.

Witches and Wizards Disco

Don’t forget to sign up for the Halloween Witches and Wizards disco, taking place tomorrow.

If you would like your child to attend please ensure you have signed up before 3pm today! Unfortunately we can not accept payment any later due to organising refreshments and staffing.

All children will enter through their classroom doors tomorrow for the disco at 3.30pm where they will be registered if payment has been made. We ask that children are collected at 4.30pm from their classroom doors.

Foundation Stage’s Biscuit Sale!

Don’t forget to bring your pennies for Foundation Stage’s biscuit sale tomorrow! We’re raising money as part of our expedition for the charity ‘Changing Lives’. We’re hoping to be able to donate some teddy bears to the charity for children who might not have a teddy bear at home to snuggle 🧸

The sale will take place at the end of school tomorrow outside the front of school – we can’t wait to see you all!

Porridge tasting in Crew Nursery!

The children had the chance to taste porridge this morning. It was lovely. Like the three bears we had to wait for it to cool down so while we waited we spoke about the different toppings.

Once cool the children tried chocolate chips, honey and strawberry jam on top. As a crew we then created a bar chart to show which was our favourite topping.

We have enjoyed taste testing this morning.
