Blown away by the HoWLs in Crew Welburn this morning!

This morning I visited Crew Welburn- F2 during their Expedition lesson, whereby they were focussing on developing their creative skills including painting using a fork to create texture and pattern, using their body parts and paint (hands) to create images and practising their drawing and cutting skills. I was blown away by how focussed the children were throughout the Crew. I spotted some fabulous modelling from all of the adults today and the children were really watching so that they could get smart. Finally, I just loved the kindness in this crew, so many children supporting one another to help them to be the best they can be. What a fabulous lesson for Crew Welburn- keep up the ‘great’ work!

COJO – Crew Shields

Yesterday, we started the new week with a COJO challenge. The children were split into 2 groups and their mission was to get their team and all their equipment from one side of the playground to the other. Sounds easy but this requires lots of listening, team work and problem solving Children were only able to stand on the spots or in a hoop, unfortunately, if you fell off, you lost a team member so very important everyone worked together.

When discussing why they hadn’t been successful, children quickly realised they’d made the gaps between the spots to big which left it difficult to move from one space to another or they needed to devise a new strategy if they were to complete the task again.

Handwriting in MI

MI had great handwriting session this afternoon. They thought about the work hard howl by ensuring they had a positive attitude to their learning but they also thought about the get smart howl by producing beautiful work they are proud of. MI were really engaged and are really trying hard to form all letters correctly whilst finding their own consistent style.

Challenge Crew in MI

A great start to the day this morning in Challenge Crew. MI took part in COJO challenges along with different team building activities. Lots of positive praise by all and a great way to start the day!

KS1 Historians become craftsmen for the afternoon!

KS1 children delved into the history the the crafts trade within the castle, creating their own clay pots. We explored the how the craftsmen used clay to create their own pots and fine wears for the Lords and Lady’s to feast from. It was not as easy as we thought to manipulate the clay as the craftsmen would have done in the medieval times with very little tools.

Y2’s Banner is up!

During their time in EYFS, Year 2 created a beautiful banner which was brought to life by our Comms Team. This was their first full year in school and they worked so hard to create this to show what a great place Carcroft Primary is. It shows they Worked Hard, to Get Smart and most importantly Be Kind to one another. The children collaboratively designed the banner and with the help of our wonderful families kindly donating to help us print it, creating a lasting legacy for all to see. I wonder if you can spot it on the way into school in the morning 🙂

This week in Crew Mcloughlin…

In Crew this week, we started to celebrate the Queens life. Various facts about the Queen were outside of the classroom. Children worked in mini crews, one being the researcher (they had to nip outside, read the information and bring facts back.) They shared this will another crew member who added this to their paper. In our debrief, we shared the facts we had gathered about the Queens life and discussed the importance of doing this.

In Citizenship Crew, we were targeting certain gender stereotypes in different careers. The children were asked to draw a soldier and name them (without given the purpose of this activity). Children were then asked to watch a video clip around gender stereotypes. It opened our eyes up to see that out of 17 drawings, only one was drawn as a girl. In our debrief, we shared our own career ambitions and how gender shouldn’t guide this.

In celebration Friday crew, we chose work we were proud of and placed these on our desks for all to see. We then did a gallery walk of our beautiful work(hoping it would be framed in the Beautiful Work display, which is yet to be confirmed). Brooklyn won for most improved handwriting this week!

We have had a busy week of working hard in our Reading, Writing and Expedition lessons. We have blown Miss away with our narrative writing! Our HoWLs are also really improving and we are reflecting everyday to become even better! 🤩

Lots of focus this morning in EYFS and KS1

Positive Post its – Crew Shields

This morning in Crew we had come positive post it time. Children were given a name of another child in their crew and they had to praise them for something they’d done this week. This ensured that all crew members were praised and recognised for the things they properly do without even thinking. It was so lovely to hear the things they had said about each other such as, being mature, being resilient, always trying their best, being funny, helping each other when they are stuck or even during football. There were definitely lots of smiles during our Crew session this morning.
