Last week, Crew Hamill began their Art Slice, focusing on the use of watercolours to create a background. We looked at 12 different watercolour techniques including flat wash, gradient wash and splatter.
Today, we have continued with our watercolour painting, focusing on the four sections we need for the background of our work. We used flat wash and gradient wash to get the desired effects and experimented with mixing colours in order to get our desired shades.
Today we have practised some of the images that we will apply to our final pieces. We used some of the acrylic techniques that we looked at last week as we practised. We then gave our partner some critique based on their images. We then had a further practise where we applied the critique we had been given to improve our work. This really helped us with our Christmas trees for our final draft! There were some great praises, notices and wonders given out today that really made us think about how we can make our work better. We look forward to using our critique and adding it to our next draft.
Today in Crew we thought about all the things at school that help keep us safe at school. Great ideas Crew Robson!
This week in Magic Maths, we are learning to count in 2s to 30. Today we practiced counting in 2s and finding the missing number on the number bunting. We found a pattern with doubling and that all the numbers are even.

Today in Crew Robson we began our Christmas Art Slice with a gallery walk of artwork by the cubist artist Pablo Picasso. We shared our notices and praises and then moved on to look specifically at the shapes he uses in his artwork.

Today we completed a grammar lesson on similes that will support us when writing our Christmas setting description. Some great ideas and many of us pushed for green standard today 🙂
Today we thought about why we have laws and what can happen if we break the law. We began by thinking about what we already know about the law in our country and what these laws do. We then looked at some of our British laws and we discussed in mini crews how they help and protect British citizens. We then moved onto thinking about consequences and what consequences there may be for people that break the law. We looked at a variety of pictures where people have made bad choices. We discussed the consequences that may have been in place. Finally we closed our eyes and imagined what the world would be like without any laws. We voiced one word to describe our thoughts and shared our feelings with the whole crew.

We continued our art slice by practicing different acrylic paint techniques.
Then, we started the first draft of our Christmas calendar. This involved using the sponge technique to create the background using colour mixing. We have already started to critique our first attempt and realised we’ll need to be more precise with colour mixing on our second draft.
Finally, we started to sketch the trees for each season. Again, we started to reflect and think about what we’ll need to do differently on the next draft.
