We are improving every week 🙂
In Crew Haddock,we have been writing about our experience day.
This week, Crew Hamill have noticed that they have been a little bit forgetful in bringing their book bags to school. They have worked really hard to improve their reading skills so we are now driving to ensure we remember to bring our book bags to school, with our home reading logged by our adults, every day! We have worked together to create this chart that helps us to see who has remembered their book bag and who has left it at home. We’re hoping to see everyone’s book name on the right chart!
This afternoon we spent time learning about a compass and the different directions. We firstly looked at the cardinal directions: North, East, South and West.
Then we looked at the intermediate directions which are North East, south east, south west and north west.
Once we knew the directions, we played a game where we had to follow the directions and see where we ended up.
Yesterday afternoon, we braved the cold to go on an adventure. We had to use a series of instructions to guide us around the playground where we found some clues. When we returned to class, we worked together to figure out what they said. When we had finished, we discovered that the clues made up the guiding question.
This afternoon, Crew Hamill made a start on their Student Led Conferences! We have worked hard to create our scripts, ready to share with our adults.
In our geography lesson, we have looked at what human and physical features are. We firstly worked in groups to cut out the images and then stuck and organised them onto our sheet to show which is human and which is physical. We worked so well in our groups!
Today, Y2 explored Passover which is one of the most important festivals in the Jewish year. It is celebrated in Spring. We discovered that story of Passover is in the the Torah, which we looked at last week. During Passover, Jewish people remember how the Israelite people were freed from slavery by Moses over 3000 years ago. Passover is celebrated for seven or eight days. The night before passover begins, there is a special service called Seder. At the Seder meal there is a special Seder plate on the table. The Seder plate is an important part of the Seder meal, this plate has five sections to hold some special Seder foods. We created our own Seder plates to share with our grown ups at home, explains the importance of the food shared on the Seder plate.
Another fab lesson in maths today! We looked at both tenths and hundredths and we all worked so hard 🙂 Some great collaborative working today when some of us found things a little challenging. It was so lovely to see crew members supporting each other.
In our reading lesson today we continued to work on our written questions from yesterday. We used the text to skim and scan for clues then recorded our answers. We are getting more confident in using the text and we are starting to believe in ourselves. We then moved onto reading the next part of the story, we were so excited to find out what happened! We discussed the text as we read, unpicked unfamiliar vocabulary and thought about why certain parts of the story had happened. We even used our inference skills to talk about why the characters had behaved in a particular way. We discussed our opinion on the ending of the story and this allowed for some great discussions, challenging our thinking.
