Today in our computing lesson we learnt about what debugging is and how we identify them in an algorithm. We used maps and directions to spot the bug and thought about how we rewrite the algorithm.
Decomposition
In Crew Godley, we continued our computing work and discussed what decomposition was. The children enjoyed explaining what they had already learnt about computers.
We first drew pictures using 2D shapes and discussed how we could break this down for someone to follow. We then created step by step instructions for our partners to follow.
We discussed that we have to break down big tasks into small chunks to make it easier to complete.
Computing – debugging and decomposition
In computing today, we have looked at decomposition and how we break up a job into smaller achievable steps.
We then looked at debugging, this is where we look at if the algorithm has a problem and reason why it does not work and then re write the algorithm. We used a map to do this.
Computing – Inventions!
Crew Hamill had SO much fun this afternoon creating their own inventions! We discussed all of the pieces of technology we found around school during our last computing lesson and reminded ourselves of what a computer is. We then used this information to come up with our own inventions that all involved a computer. We had to think about what we would need to input into our inventions in order for them to work and then what the output would be once we did that. We had some amazing ideas, including:
- A cupcake machine: You press a button on your desk and the cupcake machine pops up from underneath, producing a freshly baked cupcake.
- A glitter party machine: A small box attached to the ceiling. When you clap 3 times, it triggers the machine to open. When the doors open, glitter rains down from the ceiling and the box starts to play music so that you can have a party.
- A time machine: A box that you can go into and programme with different years. This allows you to move forwards or backwards in time!
- A shrink watch: When you twist the outer circle of the watch in one direction, it makes you shrink to the size of a little bug! When you twist it back in the opposite direction, you’re the same size again.
Ancient Egyptian BBK
On Monday afternoon, we used the Children’s University of Manchester to develop our knowledge of the Ancient Egyptians whilst improving our digital literacy. This was really interesting and we learnt loads of new things (some of us even wanted to read up more about what we’d looked at on Myon)!
We are inventors!
In our computing session, we became inventors and designed our own invention. We had to use all our previous knowledge to make sure our invention had inputs and outputs. We came up with some fantastic inventions!
Technology Hunt 🔍
To continue our computing lessons, Crew Hamill went on a safari hunt around school! However, we weren’t trying to hunt out animals 🦓🐅🦒 we were searching for technology 💻🖨️📱We went around school and made a list of all the technology we could find and made a note of where things were. It was amazing to see just how much technology there is in Carcroft Primary – computers, laptops, interactive screens and printers just to name a few.
Computing in Crew MI
This week in computing, we carried on with out learning about search engines. We used a search engine to find information about explorers. We then worked together to research answers to questions. Quickly, we figured out that the website we were using was full of inaccurate information and fake news when we compared it to another website. We learnt that we have to be careful when searching on the internet.
Algorithms – precise and concise
In our computing lesson today we have looked at algorithms in more depth and looked at why the instruction needs to be precise so that everyone does the same and follows it the same.
We learnt that editing an algorithm is called a bug.
Computing in Crew MI 💻
In today’s lesson we learnt about search engines: what they are and why we use them. It was great to explore and see who could find information the fastest. We then discussed how reliable to information was. It was great to see Crew MI helping each other too.
