How to be a Roman soldier – Plot point 3 ✏️

This morning we started writing plot point 3. First, we discussed what we was going to be writing about and picked out the important information from our text. We then chotted our ideas about the strict Roman disciplines and wrote a shared write together. We focussed on including fronted adverbials and coordinating conjunctions and came up with some fantastic examples of these. The writing Crew Thompson produced today was fantastic!

Roman invasion

In expedition we have been learning all about the Romans. Yesterday, we focussed on finding out when the Romans invaded Britain. We sorted the timeline of events and discovered that the Romans invaded Britain in 43 AD under Emperor Claudius’s control. As a crew, we had a discussion about what AD and BC meant in relation to the dates on our timeline.

Reading – Book Talk

This morning in reading, Crew Thompson used text marking to help unpick the text. We started new pages this week so it was really important to get a good understanding of the text and what the key words meant. In our next book talk lesson, we will use our text marking to help create a class glossary of these key words. This will really help us in our demonstration lesson later on in the week.

Roald Dahl day 📖

This afternoon, we celebrated the work of Roald Dahl. First, we read an extract from Matilda. We really loved this book, so much so it may have to be our next class shared read! Children were then able to choose an activity related to Roald Dahl. They could do some mindful colouring of quotes by Roald Dahl, acrostic poems, or design a sweet as if they were Willy Wonka. 🍬🍫

Super Scottys!

This morning, we had a fab scottys session outside. We focused on working as a team and building crew relationships! This is definitely something we are going to continue to work on and develop in Crew Thompson! 🛞💪

Yr 3/4 Family Stay and Engage

It was lovely to see some of our grown ups in this afternoon to participate in an activity with the children. You’ll have seen previously that we have been making knucklebones this week so it was time to teach the parents how to make them. The children led the activity with their parent and between them they decided on some rules for their knucklebones. Thankfully, the children brought along the ones they’d made earlier so they could play a few games. We look forward to seeing more parents joining us next time.

French in KS2

This week we have started our French learning journey! We started off by learning how to greet one another and ask someone what their name is. We also discussed our classroom protocols and were introduced to French phrases that Madame McGlone will be using during our lessons.

We worked hard using lots of ‘my turn, your turn’, working on our pronunciation, and understanding the meaning of each phrase. We then had a visit from our French speaking friend Phillipe the Puppet, who we confidently introduced ourselves to. We finished off with a slight twist on the game ’21’. We used the French numbers from 1-10 to adapt the rules slightly to try and be the last crew member standing. Super effort from everyone – très bien!
