First day back…

It has been a busy first day back as we caught on all the delightful things that happened over Christmas but also getting back into our routine. In Crew Shields, we find routines and structure very important so essential that we get settled in quickly.

We started the day with Crew and finding out what Santa delivered. Lots of very lucky children this Christmas.

We then started into reading which is a new text about the eye. We reminded ourselves about the importance of text marking and how this can support our comprehension.

During Expedition, we started with some hook activities to get us immersed in our learning. Absolutely great to see we have some history experts in the room. I may need to use that knowledge as we move through this expedition. We even started to infer what we think the guided questions may be based on what we’ve done so far. The big reveal will happen on Friday and no doubt we’ll be able to have some more guesses at the question.

Christmas Party fun

It’s been such a lovely afternoon in Crew Shields as we enjoyed our Christmas party.

Party food, musical statues, pass the parcel, four corners and even popping balloons with their bottoms. Who never trying to pop a balloon with your bottom could be so funny?! haha It was even better that they were good sports and completed their forfeits. Maybe next time, all the balloons will have a forfeit considering they were happy to participate.

It’s been a great way to unwind after a term of hard work from all the children.

UKS2 educating Carcroft community 🚀

The learning expedition culminated when we hosted an education expo at school to share our learning journey with parents and family members from the local community.  Here, we demonstrated our understanding of space, forces and computing through a range of presentations, films and live investigations as well as explaining just how movement affects our world.  We have compiled this into a video as a celebration of learning to create a lasting legacy of this expedition.  We also hope that this event has given the local community more reasons to become involved in our school life and appreciate our everyday journey in working hard and being kind to get smart. Check out our final product here incase you missed todays celebration of learning.

Thank you so much to parents who have been involved in the presentation and celebration of learning, it is very much appreciated. The children have loved showing off their learning to you and heres to another great term of expeditionary learning!

Carol singing in UKS2

Today we delivered our UKS2 carol concert to our families and what a lovely celebration it was. We all enjoyed singing a variety of songs with Mrs Ibbotson doing an amazing job playing the piano. We then continued with the festivities by enjoying a mince pie, hot chocolate and a few biscuits! What a lovely morning 🙂 We are all super proud of each and every crew and we hope everyone has a lovely festive period. Merry Christmas from all of the UKS2 crew and heres to a happy and healthy new year.

Yr 5/6 Final Product

This afternoon, we shared our final product, which was a science expo, with our parents. A HUGE THANK YOU to all the parents that joined us. It was great seeing so many of you turning up but also being fully engaged in the activity.

The crew were rather nervous today but I’m sure you’ll agree that they absolutely smashed it. I am beyond proud of them.

If you have an feedback regarding the Science expo, we would really appreciate your feedback. You can send this in with your child or catch me on the door at the end of the day tomorrow.

Once again thanks for joining us!

Line graphs – 29/11/22

In Maths, we have been learning about statistics and in particular line graphs. Being able to draw an accurate line graph is quite a tricky skill to learn so we spent some time practicing how to draw line graphs. As part of this, we used varying number increments on the graph so children started to understand that they won’t always go up in 1s or 2s.
