Crew Flaherty Daily Blog 25.9.20

Wow Crew Flaherty, what a great week we’ve had.

Highights of the week

You have all worked hard this week and I have noticed our Crew supporting each other with the expectations in lessons, which has been lovely to see. Crew Flaherty, your acts of kindness do not go unnoticed.

Watching the children’s reaction to spinning our HOWL-OPOLY wheel has got to be my favourite moment this week. Our Crew loved finding out that our weekly Crew average had improved which means they get a treat.

In writing, our Crew have worked hard to meet the gold standard and some children have started to challenge themselves to meet the green standard. I am very proud of our Crew for showing such a positive attitude to writing. Keep up the great work Crew Flaherty.

Learning Legend

Honey-J Dixon for working hard in every lesson and being an amazing role model to her peers. Honey has a positive attitude to her learning and produces beautiful work. She shows a determination to succeed whilst always being kind to her peers, which is such an admirable quality. I am very proud of you Honey

Well done Honey

HOWLs

Our Crew average for the week was an amazing 3.1. Well done Crew Flaherty, we have improved from 3.0 last week.

Crew Elmer Daily Blog 25.09.20

Happy Friday People! 🙌

Yay! 😁 Today we have definitely been experiencing that ‘Friday Feeling’ in Crew Elmer! 🤩 Mrs Elmer is very much looking forward to some much needed sleep 💤, being able to eat my breakfast sitting down 🤣 and of course spending time with my little family 💕 It was lovely during Crew to hear about all the exciting things that Crew Elmer will be up to this weekend: baking, playing football, biking, going to the park and much more! Have a fab weekend Crew Elmer and a much deserved rest! 💆‍♀️💆‍♂️

Star moment of the day:

Today I spent most of the morning with Miss Laing looking at ‘The Write Stuff’ across LKS2 which in itself was pretty much a star moment of the day! However, it was lovely when I came back to class to see and hear all about the excellent work Crew Elmer had been doing in Science this morning. There were some fantastic illustrations showing ‘changing state’ from water to ice cubes to steam. Children used the correct scientific vocabulary including ‘particles’, ‘vibrate’, ‘collide’, ‘freeze’, ‘melt’ etc. They were also great at explaining the process to me too! Great work Crew Elmer! I wonder if you could freeze some water this weekend and make your own ice cubes? Or even watch a grown up boil the kettle and see the steam that comes out? Remember not all of your learning has to happen in the classroom! Here are a few photos of the children’s great work!

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.1

Today our Crew average is back up there! 🙌 I believe that this is down to so many children trying to ‘work hard’ at all times today and lots of children using kind words, which has been much nicer to see! 😊

This week’s HoWL target is: 3.0

How can we improve this next week?

Next week, Crew Elmer still need to continue to work on all three HoWLS. Children also need to remember to use kind words and as I said today… ‘if you haven’t got anything nice to say then please don’t say it’, as well as ‘think before you speak’! I am really hoping that next week ALL of Crew Elmer can be kind to each other EVERY day! 🤞

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Crew Elmer nominated Sienna for our class HoWL hero for ‘working hard’ ALL day! Sienna has achieved ‘Green Standard’ in EVERY lesson today and despite Mrs Elmer not being in the classroom at times she continued to try her best and stayed focused on her work, despite others around her being noisy! Well done Sienna! 👏

Learning legend:

Firstly, I love that this was a total surprise to this little lady today! Thank you to her mum for keeping quiet 👍 It was lovely to see the surprise and smile on her face! 🤩

This girl might be quiet but she never goes unnoticed. She always tries her absolute best and has developed the confidence to ask her peers and adults when she isn’t sure. She comes to school ready to learn and always gets on with every task given to her. She has also been getting incredibly smart this week achieving ‘Green Standard’ in several lessons. Finally this lovely young lady is always kind to others, she plays with all of her crew at crew playtimes and is happy to help in the classroom, holding doors open, tidying the classroom and handing out books. It has been a great week for Laila. Well done Laila, you really are a ‘Learning Legend’! 🥇👏👍🙌🤩
Weekly overview:

The children have had a great week in Crew Elmer this week. They have learnt lots, done lots of celebrating (spinning the wheel for our average HoWL score, celebrating daily HoWL Heros, celebrating the Golden Ticket winner for handwriting and finally celebrating our Learning Legend!), and produced some beautiful work for our Science and Expedition displays! Well done Crew Elmer! The children’s maths knowledge is continually growing and this week we have really tackled number lines and different intervals well. In ‘The Write Stuff’ children have been writing their own stories using the FANTASTICS. In Science they have learnt more about changing state (hopefully next week they will get to see this! 🤞) and in Expedition we have been exploring Carcroft community looking at who is in it and what they bring to the community. In Spanish the children have learnt some basics which I can’t wait to test when we do the register next week! Finally in PE the children have been working as ‘mini crews’ in relay races and scavenger hunts! What a busy week! Next week I am hoping for us to squeeze in some more computing and music!

Crew Attendance:

Our latest attendance was 95%. This is an improvement on last week and it means that we are even closer to achieving the minimum expected standard (97%)!

Crew Longley – Weekly Review

Wow! What a week.

We’ve had a great week in Crew Longley, but we are definitely ready for the weekend! 🤩 We have all certainly earned our work hard badge this week. We have even had visitors to see our learning this week.

Star moment of the day:

Today’s star moment goes to Alkim today. Seeing him so engaged with his writing was fantastic and I loved hearing him read his repetitive sounds. If you see him this weekend ask him to tell you Thump! Thump! Thump!❤️

Today’s HoWL average is: 2.9

Today our Crew average is back up there! 🙌 I believe that this is down to so many children being engaged in their learning today and really trying to impress when Mrs Elmer and Miss Laing came to visit. Well done Guys

This week’s HoWL target is: 2.7

This week’s HoWL average is : 2.7

Today the chidren had a visit from Mr Tucker and Miss Whitehead, who praised the children for being honest with their HoWL scores. They have certainly embraced the system and are determined to beat our target next week and have a spin on the Howlopoly wheel. Who knows they might even get to cream pie Miss Laing (but hopefully not me! 😂)

How can we improve this next week?

Next week, Crew Longley need to continue to ‘work hard’, ‘get smart’ and ‘be kind’. I would especially like to see EVERYONE in Crew Longley being kind and trying to improve our crew, school and community environments.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Crew Longley nominated Keaton for HoWL Hero today for ‘work hard’. Keaton sometimes finds it hard to get started, but today has really worked hard to produce some interesting work. Well done Keaton!

Learning legend:

Where do I even begin with our ‘Learning Legend’ for last week?

Our learning legend is Isabella!
She has really blossomed this week. Isabella has been working hard to improve her learning across all the subjects and has really been keen to share their thoughts and opinions. My favourite moment was seeing Isabella reminding her crew to work hard and explaining how they could improve. Well done Isabella.

Weekly overview:

This week we have continued to get smart in Crew Longley, but also continuing to develop our crew bond. In crew this week, we have worked in teams to complete Cojo challenges, created a carrot car and made a stunning video to show what it means to work hard in Crew Longley.

Friday ✅ Another great week in Foundation 😊

The weeks are really flying by and today we sat as a Crew and reflected on our achievements so far. The list was incredible 🌟 We have been working extremely hard to develop our HoWLs (Habits of Work and Learning). At the end of day we will begin to assess ourselves from 1-4 in Work Hard, Get Smart and Be Kind. We will be thinking about our daily HOWL points and how we can ensure we’re a fabulous 4.

During Crew we have had some very honest discussions around Working Hard, Getting Smart and Being Kind. SJ was very reflective and said in order to improve his learning he is ‘going to focus on one thing at a time to concentrate better’. Such a fantastic answer SJ ☺️ You really thought carefully about how you can get to that Fab 4! We will start to update our HOWL tracker daily from Monday so watch this space 🏫

🌟 Star moments 🌟

It has been lovely to see some new friendships forming in Foundation. The children have settled well and developed Crew over the past four weeks. They love to sing our Crew song 🎶

⭐️ Twinkle twinkle, little star,
⭐️ We’re Crew Godson (Godley/Ferguson combined ☺️), yes we are.
⭐️Sharing, caring, we’re best friends.
⭐️Trying our best until the school day ends.
⭐️Twinkle twinkle, little star.
⭐️We’re Crew Godson, yes we are ☺️

I’m looking forward to seeing more blossoming friendships this term 👫👭👫👭

Crew Nicholson 25.09.20

Happy friday everyone! Another fantastic week and after reflecting today, I can’t believe how great the children have settled. They are learning something new each day and we are having some great discussions sharing our learning and we are having fun too!

Star moments 🌟

We sang action songs including ‘row your boat’ and ‘wheels on the bus’ and the children showed me their best singing voices! We learnt some new parts of ‘row your boat’ and worked in pairs to sing and do the actions. We had lots of fun 🎤

We are always looking for ways to improve the classroom and the provision and today the children explored the new sand area. This again was a great opportunity to work together and the children worked hard to tidy the classroom!

HOWL Hero

Being Kind – Leo

Leo helped to tidy areas that he had not played in, setting a great example to his peers and helping the adults. Well done Leo!

Crew Fox blog 25.9.20

🤩Happy Friday everyone🤩

Today we created lapbooks in science to explain what the circulatory system is 👩🏼‍🔬🧑🏽‍🔬. We loved researching using a range of books and browsing the web 👩🏾‍💻👨🏽‍💻.

After our Spanish lesson🇪🇸, learning how to introduce ourselves, we completed a training circuit in PE with lots of activities: squats, lunges, sit ups, press ups… 💪🏼we were pretty worn out😰!

We have worked super hard on our HOWLS this week and have an average of 2.7 which we were SUPER happy with 🥳. This means we get to spin the wheel next Friday. Crew Fox really are making great progress and trying hard to be the best crew that they can be 🦊

Well done to our Learning Legend Lewis. You really are a super role model to all your peers🤩.

Have a lovely weekend everyone 😃

Crew Boswell – 25.09.20

Good afternoon,

Star moment of the day:

Our star moment today was having the chance to show Miss Laing and Mrs Elmer our developing skills at being authors.  We loved the chance to share some of our work so we thought this could be a great time to share some of our first independent writing and editing with you!

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.3

How can we improve this next week?

To improve next week, we all need to start working a little quicker.  We’ve improved with asking for help if we need it and so now it’s time to really show what we’re capable of!

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Work Hard – Troy!  Troy has had a great day today and has shown a fantastic attitude to learning and he has impressed us all with his perseverance, especially when he has found something tricky.  This positive attitude and focus has easily earned him our HoWL Hero award!

Our Learning Legend:

Bobby-Joe!

Bobby-Joe has blown us all away in Crew Boswell with his concentration in lessons and the facts he remembers from one lesson to the next but he should be especially proud of the huge improvement in his handwriting and how this is helping him to Get Smart each day. Keep it going, fantastic work!

Weekly overview:

What a week we’ve had this week!  Highlights have certainly been the visitors that have come to see us working hard and having a chance to show others how fantastic a crew we are.  Others would be the developing confidence and kindness that’s been on show this week and the growing enthusiasm that we’re tackling our maths sessions.  We also enjoyed having the chance to share our thoughts on how we’ll Work Hard with our phase in assembly and it has helped us to stay focused today.  Watch out for our work on Be Kind that will be coming up soon.  We’ll be sure to share it with you as well!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Crew Mcloughlin blog 25/09/20

First of all I would just like to start with our average HoWL score today… we went above our target and achieved 3.3! We have now got to keep this is up Crew Mcloughlin so our weekly average is as high!

Mr Tucker and Miss Whitehead came around with our new HoWLopoly wheel, as we had achieved our expected standard last week. We gave it a good spin and it landed on… throwing a cream pie in Miss Laing’s face 😲 I hope your ready Miss Laing!

Today in science we looked at children’s developmental milestones in typical age brackets. We had a great discussion around how we all learnt to walk and talk at different ages and what we thought children should do by a certain age. Here are some lovely examples of work from Logan M and Lila which they are both proud of.

Learning LegendGracie- for having a positive attitude towards all of her learning, you have shown incredible resilience in your writing which has made you into a ‘Write Stuff’ superstar where you have gone on to produce a lovely piece of writing. Keep believing in yourself! You can do it!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Miss Mcloughlin.

Crew Wilson Daily Blog: 25/09/2020

The end of the school week is here and we have definitely had that Friday Feeling today in Crew Wilson! We have achieved so much this week across all of our lessons, here are some highlights!

Highlights of the Week

Theme: Our Box-Model replica of Carcroft is coming along nicely. We have paper-mached our creations and added a base coat of paint ready for further detail to be added next week. I have been blown away by the children’s creativity and resilience with this activity – sticky hands and newspaper make for hard work but Crew Wilson haven’t let this stop them! I can’t wait to see our final product!

Maths: We have been continuing exploring numbers 0-10, this week focussing on the concept of one more and one less. We have experimented with manipulatives, number lines, ten-frames and counting games to help us get secure with this. The children have really enjoyed working independently, applying their new knowledge to a task after their taught session and showing off all they have learned.

English: We have continued with our recount of our expedition journey to Coffee Corner from the beginning of term. Although it was nearly 4 weeks ago the Crew must have photographic memories as they can recall even the smallest of details from our journey! I have been so proud watching each group work so hard on their writing. While some words may not be spelled correctly, the children have sounded these out independently and have done such a great job – their understanding of phonics is improving rapidly and we will soon have a Crew full of fantastic authors!

Howl Heroes

Work Hard : This Howl goes to April today. I can always count on April to be concentrating on her work, she is always applying herself to the highest standard. April is a superstar and has become a valued member of Crew Wilson, we love her for her sassy nature and funny stories, but mostly because she tries so hard to do her best in everything. Keep up the great work April!

Get Smart : This Howl goes to Luke , aka Mr Chatterbox! Talking in front of the whole Crew isn’t Luke’s favourite thing to do, but this week I feel like I have taught a totally different child, Luke has totally come out of his shell and his shyness is a thing of the past! Luke is always on hand to answer questions, he is always listening carefully, especially in Maths and he has begun to share more about himself with his Crew in our morning sessions, well done Luke!

Be Kind: This Howl goes to Miami, as Miami is such a sweet and caring member of our Crew. She is always one of the first to comfort a friend who is feeling blue, she is a superstar ‘Green-Standard-Tidier’ and keeps our learning environment in ship shape! Well done Miami!

Average Howl Score:

3.7 – We have had some very honest discussions this week around Working Hard, Getting Smart and Being Kind. Some children have some personal targets to carry out next week so we can ensure they get those fabulous fours!

Reward!

As our Average Howl Score has improved week upon week, Mr Tucker and Miss Whitehead came round with a very exciting treat wheel! Dalton gave it a spin on behalf of Crew Wilson and we won sweets as a reward for all our hard work! These will be given out next week, well done Crew Wilson!

Mr W signing off after another brilliant week at CPS, have a lovely weekend everyone!
