Classifying animals 🐟🐸🐍🐄🐧

Today in our science lesson we learnt the different classifications for animals, they are:

Birds 🐧

Amphibians 🐸

Reptiles 🐍

Mammals 🐄

Fish 🐟

We learnt that each of the different classes had warm or cold blood, webbed feet, could breathe under water, had fur or hair, dry skin and wings. This is how we were able to classify them into groups.

Citizenship Crew 🧍🏻❌

In crew this morning, we looked at what happens to my body and I can get help with any concerns. To be successful in this lesson we had to understand what sort of touch we are happy with and what sort of touch we are not happy with, know the difference between a little deal and a serious problem and know how to get help for myself or others. First, we looked at the choices we make at home, school and outside. Then, we used colours to highlight areas on our body which we were ok for people to touch, areas only our close family and friends could touch and areas that are private and only ourselves can touch.

Reliable rescuers ⛑🚑

In Scotty’s this morning, we continued to work on developing our teamwork skills. First, we had a warm up game where we worked as a team to reach the other side. Then, we had a go at making a stretcher to help rescue injured people. This required working as a team as we had to make sure we lifted at exactly the same time. We were all so pleased with our efforts today and can’t wait to take these skills onto the field.

Scientific Data

On Monday, we started our case study 2 on science. During our first lessons, we looked at a range of data about Svalbard and discussed what this told us about Svalbard. Some of the information was quite alarming as it shows the detrimental effect global warming is having on this country.

Crew Shields – Music 🎶

We continued our music unit ‘The Doot Doot Song’ by warming up doing ‘The stomp canon’. This gave us the chance to warm up our voices and our bodies.

To begin our lesson, we talked about chords and triads. Using glockenspiels, we worked as a group of 3 to play C major, F major and A minor. Once we had practised keeping in time with one another as a group, we then tried playing each chord as a whole class ensemble before moving from chord to chord to create a short 3 bar piece of music.

Finally, we recapped the notes B, A and G on the recorder, and applied this to a short tune where we had to move between the 3 notes seamlessly.

Crew Hamill and Crew Thompson – Music 🎶💃🏻🕺🏻

We have been continuing with our music unit ‘Latin Dance’. We warmed up by practising the salsa step we looked at during our last lesson, we then learnt a new step and practised dancing both of them together.

We looked at keeping the beat of our song using untuned percussion instruments. We talked about, and then applied, crotchets and quavers using the instruments. Once we were confident with keeping the beat, we then added vocals and began to sing the song whilst playing.

We were introduced to chords, when you play two or more notes at the same time. Working with a partner, we tried playing the chords for A minor and F major on the glockenspiels. We found it tricky at first to play the correct notes at the same time as our partner, but we showed resilience and continued to practise keeping in time with one another. We then split into two groups, one playing A minor, the other playing F major at the same time. We thought it sounded really good when we all fell into the same time. We finished off this part of the lesson by continuing to learn the song lyrics, thinking about the melody and where we needed to clap.

Finally, we recapped the notes B, A and G on the recorder, and applied this to a short tune where we had to move between the 3 notes seamlessly.

Challenge Crew 🎶

In challenge crew today, we circled up and had to work together as a team to pass around the object without making a sound. We started with a tambourine and then tried passing round Mrs Bidmead’s lanyard. We had our problem solving heads on and soon came up with solutions on how to pass them round quietly.
