Name Recognition!

In Crew Frost we like to be prepared! For the summer term, we are aiming for the children to able to recognise their own name and even write some letters for their own name!

To support this, during their choosing time the children are offered opportunities to spot their name, work on their pencil grip, pronounce the first sound in their name, and begin letter formation for their name. They were so excited to see their very own name cards this week, and we can’t wait to do more fun name-recognition games with them. We can wait to see this fine motor skill develop. Well done Crew Frost – you are working very hard!

Snow day

Today crew Frost have timed it perfectly in our phonic session by planning and executing another environmental walk. During this phonics session nursery focused on the weather by marking marks on their boards for what they could see and the way the weather felt. When we came back we practiced our Fredding skills by asking questions such as was it h-o-t? Then we used our think, pair, share protocol to discuss the meanings to the marks we had made for our outside adventure. The children loved the snow! Well done for another successful phonics session Crew Frost.

Fred bingo!

This week the children have been introduced to Fred Bingo! Each child is given a sheet of six CVC words, the adult Freds the words and the children mark off the correct image, the first one to finish wins! This has been so much fun, building on our pictorial skills and our oral blending. They cannot wait for new images next week!

What can you hear?

This week the nursery children went on an environmental walk to see what they could hear. We heard a bus, ambulance, birds, and much more! The children gave meanings to the marks they made on their clip board to help them remember the sounds. This was also a great opportunity to practice our lines and circles. Then the children came back to the classroom and tried to think of the sounds we were Fredding. They were amazing at orally blending the sounds! We can’t wait to go on another walk soon.

Phonics play

During the lead up to phonics the children will be mastering the foundational skills needed to learn their sounds. During this lesson the children are learning all about the sounds around them, tapping out the rhythmic patterns they can hear in nursery songs, and practicing how to Fred some simple cvc words with a touch of musical fun. They were also amazing at matching the sound level from quite to loud well done crew Frost!
