In Crew Haddock,we have been writing about our experience day.
Hedgehog in the park 🦔
Today we started reading Percy the Parker keeper has a flying visit. We loved reading the first part of the book and experience what it must have felt like when the hedgehog was chilling under the tree in the park until bonkers fell down and bashed his head.
We looked up at the sky and shared what we could see, we then acted out what the hedgehog might have done when the conkers fell.
Experience day and feature finding in MI
Today we watched and unpicked a section of the Jungle Book film, thinking about how Mowgli feels in certain situations. We got into role, becoming Mowgli, making his feelings come to life. We were then introduced to our new writing genre, a diary entry. We started to think about what a diary is and the features needed. We explored a model text and then unpicked the different features. We talked about how a diary is different to our previous genres. We talked about our own experiences of diaries and if we write them at home. We then looked at Mrs McClare’s example of Mowgli’s diary and what was included. This afternoon we have moved onto some grammar learning- using time adverbials. We tried to build sentences together and with our partners. We will be applying everything we have learnt in our grammar lesson tomorrow.
Writing about polar bears.
In writing today we wrote about the polar bears and what we could see in the pictures from our experience day.
Exploring Antarctica 🇦🇶
Christmas writing continues in MI
Today we wrote our second plot point continuing our Christmas setting description. We have all really loved this piece of writing where we have tried hard to use expanded noun phrases, similes, conjunctions and adverbials across both plot point one and plot point two. Great work MI 🙂
Identifying formal and informal language
This morning, Crew Mc have learned the difference between formal and informal language. We worked in pairs to match the similar sentences together – We understand that these sentences mean the same but can be written differently (formally or informally).
The Polar Express – Christmas writing
Last week, we finished our Christmas writing. The children spent some time reading their writing aloud to their peers to ensure that it was punctuated accurately and that it made sense. This has been their best piece yet where children met all the learning targets and showed some stamina for writing. I’m excited to see what their next piece brings…
Chotting, shared writing and PP1 in MI
Today we continued with our Christmas writing where we used a variety of pictures to help us to chot adjectives, expanded noun phrases and similes. We showed some great collaborative working in mini crews, listening to each other and offering ideas. We then used our ideas in our shared write before applying to our own work. Unfortunately our presentation of work was not to the best standard today so we all worked hard to rewrite our work ensuring we thought about our letter formation, taking more pride in our work. We were proud in the difference in our work and now we all look forward to writing our second plot point.
Christmas writing starts in MI
Today we completed a grammar lesson on similes that will support us when writing our Christmas setting description. Some great ideas and many of us pushed for green standard today 🙂
