Text marking / Book talk

During our last 2 lessons in reading, we have been familiarising ourselves with text marking. This is a skill we are teaching and guiding the children with as it is important children can text mark in a way that will support their understanding.
This is a skill we will continue to develop during the Autumn term with the aim that children will be more independent in the Spring term.

Roman Settlements

Over the course of 2 lessons, the children studied maps that gave them information about where the Romans settled. They then used information around the room to help them annotate their map with information about why the Romans settled in spectating places. For instance they settled in Londinium (London) because they could transport people and goods on the river Thames.

We saw the big, bad wolf!

We went on a walk today to visit Granny and take her a basket of fruit and just like Little Red Riding Hood we met the big, bad wolf hiding in the trees! Afterwards we talked about what we saw and heard in the woods and how we felt when we saw such a ferocious wolf. We can now use all these ideas in our writing tomorrow!

Star Reader Breakfast! 🌟📚📖😋🧃🥣🥐

Another week, another set of fabulous Star Readers! 🌟📖 This week the children were all able to articulate why they had been chosen as their Crews Star Reader, from reading every day at home, to contributing great ideas in class to remembering all of their RWI sounds! It was lovely to hear how well they are all doing in terms of reading! 👏 We also discussed what books we like to read, our favourite authors and how to use the library! And of course, we also enjoyed some tasty breakfast treats! 🥐🥣😋🧃

Phonics 📚

We have been working extremely hard on our phonics since the start of the year, and so that we are practising as much as we can, we have been using the iPads as additional tuition during our provision time. We have really enjoyed learning with Fred and letting him hear how good we are getting at recognising sounds and getting speedier. Some of us even used the whiteboards on the table to practise our letter formation! We know that the more we practise, the better we will become!

Delivering baked goodies to Grandma 👵 🍰 🧁

Today we created our own baskets to take to Grandma some treats 🍰🧁 We loved making our baskets and discussing the traditional tale – Little Red Riding Hood. We kept our eyes out for the mischievous wolf 🐺 We thought about how Little Red Riding Hood moved through the forest and how her facial expressions changed when she spotted the wolf 🐺 We all looked after our buns and didn’t eat them until the end!
