Wow! What a fun filled day we have had in Crew Thompson! 🥳 We started the day off with a reading wordsearch to get our brains warmed up. We followed this up by taking part in the National Literacy Trust quiz online. This really quizzed our reading and football knowledge but we all did really well! We then reviewed our current book so that people can use these when looking for a book to choose to take home. We also visited the library and swapped our reading for pleasure book. We really enjoy visiting the library and seeing all the book available to us. Then, we took part in a draw-a-long and attempted to draw ‘The Gruffalo’. We all tried super hard with this and listened to the instructions really carefully. We have had a super day filled with lots of reading and some super great outfits! 🎩🧸👗
World Book Day 📚
Crew Hamill have had lots of fun today for World Book Day and so many of us got dressed up as our favourite characters! We began the day by joining a Zoom Meeting and taking part in the World Book Day Quiz which was so much fun. They tested our knowledge on all things football and reading! There were some tricky questions but we gave it our best go. We have also coloured some book inspired quotes and our own bookmarks which have been personalised with our names. We are going to use these in our reading books for when we read at home 🏡

We have some brilliant costumes today, well done everyone!
World Book Day fun in MI :)
It’s been a busy few days in MI as we continue our activities in preparation for World Book Day! During story telling week MI created their own story and this week we have created our own front covers and blurbs to go with our creation. We are all so excited to put our story together 🙂
Crew in MI- World book day
In preparation for World Book Day on Thursday, Crew MI started to think about their favourite books favourite characters. We created an anchor chart to show our ideas.
We then thought about the reasons why we read and the places we like to read. We even discussed how we like to read! We enjoyed some time reading in these positions 🙂
We then listened to each other reading which was so lovely! We even circled up and did this 🙂 We have really enjoyed our activities today and are looking forward to more tomorrow.
World book day preparation in MI :)
Today MI read and shared a story with the children in foundation. They discussed the front cover and blurb with the children before reading the story. At the end they asked the children a few questions… Which part was your favourite? Which character did you like? Did you enjoy the story? Why? Crew MI loved sharing stories with the younger children and tried hard to use some expression whilst they read. A lovely time together in the library.
Experience day – Fun at the park 🛝
We have started our new text today, Lost and Found. The boy unexpectedly found a penguin on his doorstep 🐧 They little boy was confused as to who it belonged to and in order to find out where he had come from they visited lots of places. His first stop was the park. He saw lots of noisy children and chirping birds who ignored the little boys plea for help.
Demonstration Comprehension – Toad 🐸
This week, we had a really good discussion about the importance of demonstration comprehension and deepened our understanding of why we have this lesson. By working with our teacher, we were able to identify the key steps needed in order to read, understand and answer comprehension questions. By doing this, and listening to Miss Hamill as she talked us through her thought process, we were able to work in mini crews to answer some demonstration comprehension questions of our own.
Book Talk – Toad 🐸
This week, we have sunk our teeth into a brand new book – Toad. At the start of the week, we made predictions about what we thought would happen in the story, using two pictures from the book to support our ideas. We noticed that there was a princess and a toad and have read similar stories so we assumed it would end up with a happy, romantic ending! We then found out a bit more by reading the book introduction and had a discussion with our partners. Using Fastest Finger we worked in pairs to identify the answer to some questions about the book and have become much more confident with our retrieval and inference skills.
Demo comprehension in Crew MI
Today, we recapped the vocabulary we have learnt this week by matching it to pictures. After that we read our text and discussed it together. We helped Mrs Ibbotson to answer questions and we really unpicked how to answer ‘what’, ‘why’, ‘who’ and ‘when’ questions. Finally, we challenged ourselves to answer another impressions question where we used APE to help us.
