This week we have been looking at how we greet people at different times of the day (good day, good evening, good night). Once we had mastered our pronunciation and practised matching pictures with the correct greeting, we tested our new knowledge by playing a game of corners. There were pictures up around the classroom showing different activities at different times of the day. Miss McGlone said a greeting and we had to decide which picture matched the time of day for that greeting. We then moved to that picture and waited to see if we had chosen correctly!
Case study 1 reflection 🌍🛡️
Today we completed a kahoot quiz to really test how much we have learnt during case study 1. It was great to see the kids really engaged in their learning and remembering what they have learnt. Our top 3 children were 3 – Shelby, 2 – Charlie and 1 – Lydia. Well done guys! 🎉👏🏻
Why did the Romans come to Doncaster?
In our expedition lesson this afternoon, we explored why the Romans came to Doncaster. The Romans came to Doncaster in the AD50’s because of the River Don and the community already living there. We discovered that during the Roman times Doncaster was famous for pottery kilns but is now famous for trains like the Flying Scotsman. We created some lovely posters to show our learning!
Edit and redraft! ✏️
In our writing lesson today, we have focussed on developing our editing and redrafting skills. First, we read the writing to see if it makes sense. Then, we checked it for features such as: capital letters, full stops, spellings, fronted adverbials and conjunctions. We discussed how we use purple pen to edit the errors in our work. Tomorrow, we will continue to write plot point 4 so we can put our editing and redrafting skills into practice.
Note B ♩
In Year 3/4, we continued our musical journey to learn the recorder and practised playing the note B in multiple ways to create a melody. We looked at how some notes only last for one beat (crotchet) and how others last for two beats (quavers). Using these different notes, we were able to play 2 short pieces of music and eventually performed these without Miss McGlone’s help! Even our learning coaches are learning something new and playing their own recorders alongside us! Great work everyone! ✨
Creating our own pentatonic melodies using glockenspiels 🎼
In Year 3/4 this morning we have been using the notes F, G, A, D and C on our glockenspiels to create our own melody for ‘I’ve Been To Harlem’. We used the notes in lots of different ways and each pair created a completely different melody that we noted on our whiteboards so that we could remember the sequence. We then had some brave volunteers who performed to the rest of their crew! ✨
Litter picking!
This morning, we took advantage of the lovely sunshine and went outside on the school field to do some litter picking! We couldn’t believe how much rubbish we found!
Fantastic football!⚽
This afternoon we had a fantastic PE lesson where we were practicing our passing skills. We discussed what makes a good pass and what this should look like. Children identified that we should make a pass using the inside of our foot so that we have more accuracy. Keep up the great work!
Roman towns!
Today in our expedition lesson, we have found out lots of information about Roman towns. We focussed on six Roman towns in England: Londinium, Eboracum, Viriconium, Isca Augusta, Deva, Aquae Sulius. We used a map to help us locate where the Romans settled in the United Kingdom.
Caring Crew ❤️
I was very lucky this morning to be able to visit Crew Thompson and what a lovely treat I had! The children were checking into crew with the question, ‘What is your spirit animal and why?’. The care and compassion the children held for each other showed how much this crew worked hard, to be kind. The children articulated beautifully why they were protectors, shy, resilient, emotional and many more qualities….. They supported and praised each other, I was blown away by the language used and how much the children had already adapted to the challenges of Year 3.
