Recycling

Yesterday we were lucky enough to have Doncaster council come in and give a presentation ahead of our visit to the recycling centre. The talk was very informative before children were given the opportunity to decide which bin certain pieces of rubbish would go in. I certainly learnt a thing or 2 as I’ve been putting some items in the wrong bin.

Directions on a compass 🧭

This afternoon we spent time learning about a compass and the different directions. We firstly looked at the cardinal directions: North, East, South and West.

Then we looked at the intermediate directions which are North East, south east, south west and north west.

Once we knew the directions, we played a game where we had to follow the directions and see where we ended up.

Orienteering 🧭

Yesterday afternoon, we braved the cold to go on an adventure. We had to use a series of instructions to guide us around the playground where we found some clues. When we returned to class, we worked together to figure out what they said. When we had finished, we discovered that the clues made up the guiding question.

The big reveal…

On Friday, we discussed as a crew what the guiding question could be for our Spring expedition based on the things we’d talked about and the activities.

We had some really good suggestions such as:

How can we save the world?

How can we save our planet?

How does climate change effect the planet?

How can we take care of our planet?

How does global warming effect animals?

Really impressed that children were able to suggest guiding questions similar to the one we’ll have.

Our guiding questions for spring will be:

Polar Bear art

Our expedition working wall is an important feature in our classroom as it shows the journey of our learning. Therefore I needed some help to add some pieces to it. We’d planned to make some art using the the rubbish we’d recycled on Monday, however, we wondered how hygienic this would be. Although, we weren’t able to use the rubbish we collected we’d done a good thing by tidying up our environment.
