Building our own castles

We became designers in our expedition lesson. We followed Miss Marsh’s instructions carefully to make our castles, then once they were finished we tested their strength using tennis balls.

We came to the conclusion that paper is not a suitable material for a castle and that stone is better because it is much stronger to withstand an attack from an enemy.

We are designers

Yesterday in our expedition lessons we became design technologists. We started by looking at different buildings around the world and shared our notices, praises and wonders. We then learnt about the architect James of St George who designed lots of castles in Wales.

Today we had a go at being an architect and designing our own castle wall. We decided it must have battlements, arrow slits and a small door so enemies will find it difficult to attack.

Tomorrow we are going to build and test our designs

Working Hard in handwriting

In year 2 we have been working hard on getting to grips with our new handwriting lines. We have practiced the names of the four different lines and can now recall these independently. Today we practised drawing lines and circles from verbal instructions. The children were absolutely amazing at this and I can’t wait to see how much their handwriting improves as the year progresses.

KS1 Fieldwork to Lincoln Castle

KS1 were hooked into their new expedition today with an amazing trip to Lincoln Castle.

We took part in 3 different workshops including shield making, knight training and even a walk on the castle walls. We even saw 2 fierce looking dragons who live in the castle.

The children maintained great HoWLs while at the castle and as we walked through the streets on Lincoln to get back on the coach. Great work KS1! We hope you all had a great day because we certainly did!

Please watch our video to find out everything we got up to today!

Monty the Manatee

We have enjoyed reading the story of Monty the Manatee during our first few days back at school. The book is about a Manatee who is about to start school but the other children are very unkind to him. We have thought lots about what kindness looks like in our crew and how if we help each other we can achieve more.

We have also used the book in our reading and writing lessons. The children worked hard yesterday to order the story and match sentences to the pictures.

The children have also been working hard on some artwork which I can’t wait to share soon!
