How can we protect our wonderful world? 🌍

Today, Crew Hamill were extremely lucky to be given VIP access all areas to Carcroft Recycling Centre! ♻️We took a walk from school to our local recycling centre, collecting some rubbish along the way that we could recycle when we got there.

We got to see all of the different recycling bins that are available at the recycling centre and the lovely people from Doncaster Council told us all about the differences between them and how each different type of waste is safely recycled to help protect our wonderful world! 🌍

As if that wasn’t enough! We then got to see the JCB in action AND we got to sit in it ourselves! 🤩They showed us how they use this to flatten each of the bins so that more waste can be added. This means there will be less trips to landfill!

Building Our Geography Knowlege 🌍

Today, Crew Hamill continued with their expedition by looking at Doncaster and other cities around the United Kingdom, learning more about their human and physical characteristics. We focused on how some of these aspects have changed over time, looking at images of Doncaster and organising them into “old” and “new”. It was so interesting to see how our city has changed over time! Do you recognise some of the older buildings?

Sorting Sentence Types

This afternoon, Crew Hamill’s grammar focused on sorting sentences into their different sentence types – commands, statements, questions and exclamations. We found questions much easier because we knew they ended with a question mark ❓ but we managed to sort them all correctly!

We are Geographers 🗺️ 🌍 🧭

Crew Hamill began their expedition with their first geography lesson this afternoon. We were able to use atlas to identify where Doncaster was on a map and investigate the human and physical features. We then labelled a map of the United Kingdom , focusing on the main cities and towns around Doncaster.

Measurement Madness 📏

Today, Crew Hamill completed a practical maths lesson that involved measuring in centimetres and millimetres. We had to be VERY accurate with our measuring skills to make sure we got the exact measurements of things (e.g. a glue stick is 11cm 4mm long!) we then had to go around the room, measuring as many object as we could, sorting them into a table based on their measurements!

Recycling Champions ♻️ 🚮

Yesterday, Crew Hamill were extremely lucky to be able to take part in a recycling workshop that was delivered by Doncaster Council! We became recycling champions for our families by learning about all the different materials that can be recycled as well as the four bins we have in Doncaster and their uses! Even our adults got a bit confused when we played a game to guess which bin each of the rubbish materials should go in! We did learn 2 fantastic tips to help with this:

  1. The ONLY plastic we recycle in Doncaster is PLASTIC BOTTLES. Did you know all other plastic should go in your black bin?
  2. When thinking about cardboard, it only goes in your blue bin if it is NOT GREASY!

Bring Back Book Bags! 📖

This week, Crew Hamill have noticed that they have been a little bit forgetful in bringing their book bags to school. They have worked really hard to improve their reading skills so we are now driving to ensure we remember to bring our book bags to school, with our home reading logged by our adults, every day! We have worked together to create this chart that helps us to see who has remembered their book bag and who has left it at home. We’re hoping to see everyone’s book name on the right chart!
