A new term means a new set of skills in PE. This half term the children will be learning how to play cricket so today they have been practising how to bowl to their partners.
Sketching in the sunshine
Crew Shields made the most of the sunshine this afternoon by going out and sketching with charcoal. As part of our hook week, we have been discussing the community and recapped how Carcroft came into existence because of the coal mining industry. They learned that our school was built for the purpose of educating the miners children so it was only fitting that we sketched some of the building with charcoal.
We haven’t used charcoal as a medium for art before so this was a new experience but something we all enjoyed. Even better that we were catching some rays of sunshine.
Chinese Whispers
During our crew building activity, the children had to use their listening, verbal and memory skills. Mrs Rhodes had a shopping list that one child had to remember. They then went to their group and had to pass it down the line. When it reached the back, that child had to tell Mrs Rhodes what the shopping list was. In some cases, they remembered some of the items but it took them a couple of times before they got the full list.
The children explained that they found it easy as there was only 4 items to remember but they found it difficult because they had to rely on others to give the information. Definitely one to try another time.
Map work – Hook Week
Hook week is always an important time before we start an expedition to give children a taste of what we’ll be learning but also an opportunity to revisit previous skills.
Children used an atlas and google maps to locate some of the coal fields in the United a kingdom which led to discussions around why they thought lots of the coal mines were close together.
Easter Fun time
It was lovely for the children to take part in some Easter fun before we welcome the half term holiday. The crew have worked so hard this term so they deserved some down time as a treat. Mrs Rhodes and I even tried some face painting.
Wishing Crew Shields a very happy and safe Easter holiday.
Welcoming Spring
Yesterday, Crew Shields enjoyed a walk through our forest school where we could observe the beautiful items made by all the other Crews. It certainly put a smile on our faces as we think about the delights of Spring.
Easter egg hunt…
Yesterday, Crew Shields were super excited to take part in an egg hunt round schooL. They shared out reading the clues until they found the goodies. Obviously the best part was getting to eat their yummy caramel egg.
UKS2 Dodgeball Tournament
What a fun day!The Children and staff have really enjoyed playing dodgeball this morning and then the winning team(Green Team) got to play against the teachers. Teachers won the final game(Well done everyone)
Drama/Dance
This morning the children took part in some drama and dance during their PE lesson. They had to act out particular words but put some dance moves with them. A great job done by all.
Eggcellent Competition
It was lovely to see so many children take part in the egg competition. You could see they’d really put some though into their design. I especially loved the Black lives matters theme which linked to our current expedition.
A huge well done to everyone that took part.
A even bigger well done to the winners… Chase and Izzy- voted for by their peers.
