New Room

As you’ve been made aware, we are moving classroom. Due to some furniture being moved this evening, children will need to enter through their new door (opposite the bike shed) in the morning. Myself and Mrs Rhodes will be out to greet the children and we did inform the children about this earlier today. They will also leave through this door tomorrow afternoon. This will ensure children have an idea of the new set up before we go off and prepare them for the change in environment.

Thank you

E-Safety Day 2023

On Tuesday 7th February we celebrated Safer Internet Day 2023, attached are the slides we created to showcase our thoughts and ideas.

Internet Safety or E-Safety is an integral part of children’s education in today’s digital world and is embedded in their learning at school. At Carcroft School we want to help our parents and children improve their own understanding of e-safety issues so they can learn to use the internet and all digital media in a safe and secure way.

As a parent/carer you’ll know how important the internet is to children – they use it to learn, play, socialise and express themselves. But the technology children use every day can seem a bit daunting and you might worry about the risks your child can face online – such as bullying, contact from strangers or the possibility of them seeing illegal or inappropriate content.

To try and help parents/carers with the fast moving and changing world of internet and social media we’ve suggested a few internet sites. You can also read/download the documents for further information and advice.

  •  Thinkyouknow (advice from the National Crime Agency to stay safe online)
  • Internet matters (support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online)
  • Parent info (support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online)
  • Child net (help and advice for parents and carers)
  • Net-aware (support for parents and careers from the NSPCC)

PE

The children have been using their Taekwondo skills on a board today. Great to see some lovely team work and encouragement for each other.

Well done to Chloe and Kaylum who were the stars today

E Safety Day

In crew, we have been learning about the importance of keeping ourselves online. This is an aspect we have spoke about before as it is essential that we conduct ourselves responsibility online. We were able to identify some of the issues that we may encounter online and how important it is to speak to others. We then created some posters with ideas of how to stay safe online.

Writing features – grammar

During our writing day, we have been unpicking some text to identify adverbs, prepositional phrases and subordinate clauses. We worked with our shoulder partner to find these and then created a bank of adverbials to support us in our writing.

We discussed that it was important that when selecting an adverbial for our writing that we are able to demonstrate how it would fit within the writing.

Setting description

Today, we have started our writing unit for Case study 2 which will involve a setting description for the ’I have a dream’ speech by Martin Luther King.

We have spent time today starting to use the lens to generate ideas for aspects we could write about and some ideas for figurative language. In our next lesson, we’ll be starting to put these ideas into complete sentences so we have had practice and opportunities to magpie from our peers.

Vocabulary Game

This morning in reading, we’ve enjoyed playing imposter.

During the game, the children had to find either the antonym or synonym that matched their word. This really got the children’s brains working as some of the words are words they may not use day to day. I was very impressed with how they completed the activity because they moved around sensibly, used great communication until they found their matching word and we found the imposter (word without a match).
