Reading in MI

In reading we explored a new text, we used a range of strategies when reading out loud including echo read, partner reading, read around the robin as well as trying to beat a timer to increase our pace. We then unpicked some of the vocabulary using a range of strategies to help us. Whilst reading we text marked, one of the things we circled were dates. Our non fiction text included lots of dates which were really useful to know when it came to answering questions later in the session. We then took part in a vocabulary activity which assessed our understanding of the vocabulary we had previously discussed. We looked at both synonyms and antonyms for some of the vocabulary we had highlighted in our texts as well as thinking of some of our own examples. We then moved onto answering questions which included a range of sats style questions. Some of us then moved onto green standard questions where we had to use APE to answer the 3 mark questions. A positive attitude by all in todays lesson, well done MI 🙂

Relative clauses in MI

Our grammar lesson started with a mini assessment that challenged our pace and got us thinking about different types of grammar. We then moved onto looking at relative clauses along with relative pronouns. There are some great supportive role models in MI who continue to get smart every lesson. Our grammar knowledge continues to improve every day.

Word problems in maths

Such resilience today in our maths lesson where we tackled some challenging word problems. Such collaborative working, supporting each other to get smart. A great start to the week MI 🙂

Down time in Crew MI

We have had an incredibly busy first week back with preparing for SATs and revising so we had definitely earned some well-deserved free time this Friday afternoon. We enjoyed playing games and starting a new class text. Have a lovely weekend.

Symmetrical patterns in MI

Today we looked at different patters where we tried to reflect them across a line of symmetry. We then used a mirror line to help us to draw missing sides of shapes. We also thought about what shapes we had created. We used a mirror to help support our learning.

Active grammar in MI

Today we looked at clauses, we thought about what makes a main clause and what makes a subordinate clause. We then moved to different sides of the classroom to show if parts of sentences were main clauses or subordinates clauses. We then moved onto looking at conjunctions, both coordinating and subordinating. We thought about how different conjunctions change the meaning of sentences then applied our knowledge to different sats style questions. Some great progress this week in our grammar sessions 🙂 Great work MI 🙂

MI apply skills in reading

Today we continued to work on the pace of our reading with a 10 minute do now activity to start the lesson. This really pushed us to read the text quickly along with using our skimming and scanning skills to find information quickly. We then moved onto a sats paper where we practised our test technique. We worked on some questions independently then used a demonstration comprehension session for some of the more challenging questions. Tomorrow we will unpick some of the 3 mark questions further using APE to support our answers.
