This week in Crew we have been exploring how to keep mentally as well as physically healthy. We explored the term mental health and how we can support this by using different strategies to overcome big feelings. One way we explored today was competing some seated yoga. It was a lot tricker than it looked!

With it being our first week back after the Christmas holidays, we have had lots of crew challenges to continue to develop our Be Kind HoWL. We particularly enjoyed the Jelly Baby challenge where we were challenged to look after our Jelly Baby, all day, without eating it! Some of the crew made it a safe space to ensure it was well looked after. Fortunately, five out of the six Jelly Babies survived, with Declan’s still going strong two days later!

This week we had a different crew challenge! Our challenge was to create a bow and arrow using Knex, we then used our maths skills to measure how far we were able to fire it. We had great fun!

Crew Shields started their morning with a mindful yoga session. Even better as we were on our way to the North Pole to help Santa with his presents.

We have been very fortunate to be lucky recipients of some presents from Santa’s helpers. Ecofficiency have been ever so generous and their wonderful staff have donated some amazing gifts for us to distribute to our school community. We feel so humbled and grateful by this very kind gesture.

We had a very special visit from Santa this morning, he joined us for a festive breakfast. However, he declined the offerings of food incase he couldn’t fit down the chimney on Christmas Eve!

Our crew challenge was to play rock, paper, scissors in small groups and compete against each other. Children used a tally to keep track of who won each game so they could then compete against the winner. It was great seeing everyone get involved and show good sportsmanship if they didn’t win.

Today our crew challenge was rock, paper, scissors! We worked in groups of three, one person recording the score on whiteboards! We then swapped roles. The winners of the group then competed with each other until we had an overall champion 🙂 We loved this challenge! There was a real buzz in the classroom, lots of giggles and smiles and lots of encouragement.

In crew today we explored the importance of Road safety and how to keep safe whilst out and about. We looked at local hotspot areas for road traffic collisions and why these might have occurred. We watched a video and spotted the hidden dangers, like walking whilst looking on your phone and crossing the road in front in front of vehicles.
