Crew Shields – 16/7/21

It is so hard to believe this is the final blog for my crew before the children enter a new stage in their academic journey.

I have always been fortunate to have a crew that makes me smile and this year has been no different. They are such an amazing bunch of children and I have truly loved teaching them. Their resilience is second to none and they strive to move forward with learning all the time. They are leaving year 3 as confident learners ready to embark year 4.

Thank you to all the parents for your continued support this year. It is greatly appreciated.

Please have a fun and exciting summer and keep each other safe. I look forward to hearing what they’ve been up to when we return in September.

Crew Fox farewell

I don’t know where to start. This year has been bizarre but I’ve absolutely loved every minute 🥰 . This bunch of kids have made me laugh every day (and more recently cry at the thought of them leaving). From September, they have embraced crew and it’s just been one of the best years I’ve had🧡. To say they have missed so much learning, they have achieved SO much 🧠. They have shown the true meaning of working hard to get smart… whilst being oh so kind 💕.

At the end of this year, these children were the first to complete their Final Word presentations👏🏼. They reflected on their character growth, beautiful work and academic success and I was so proud🤩. They spoke so confidently and positively and many of them brought me to tears🥲. They all stepped out of their comfort zones and presented brilliantly. Another moment for me to be proud of this year.

There have been so many moments that have made me beam, but here are some of my favourites😍:

I will truly miss every single one of them and wish them all the best for their new schools 🍀 . Please come and see us…

And remember, we will always be the first CREW FOX 🦊🥰

Thank you for all the laughter and lovely moments we’ve had this year,

Mrs Fox x

Our week in Crew Thiede (the last one 🥲) 16.7.21

After starting the year in Year Two I was so excited (and a little bit terrified) when I was asked to become part of the EYFS crew. School was still so new for our little learners and EYFS was a new adventure for me too! Since March we have all come so far together. The children have grown so tall (sadly Miss Thiede still isn’t any taller) and have grown even more in personality and character.

It is unbelievable to think that when the pandemic started some of our youngest children were still only babies and that school was their first time meeting new people and being without their grown ups. We have all overcome so many challenges this year and I am sure that all the EYFS staff and parents/carers would agree that it has been made so much easier with the constant smiles, giggles and optimism that our little people gave bucket loads of.

The children have made so much progress this year! Little do they know but while they have been busy exploring all their favourite activities in the classroom they have been doing so much amazing learning! Listening to them talk so clearly to each other, solving problems and thinking back to what they have done before makes me grin from ear to ear! I am so proud of our EYFS crew and everything that has been achieved this year.

Thank you to all the parents/carers in EYFS! Your support (and willingness to send the children in SO many fancy dress costumes) has been invaluable! You should be so proud of your little people, I know I am! Also, a big thank you for all the appreciation you have shown for our Staff Crew and for all of the kind gifts today (they will all be throughly enjoyed in week 4 of the holidays when I don’t have to worry about squeezing into my bridesmaids dress)!

Good luck to all of Crew Thiede, I know that you will be amazing in all of your adventures next year!

You have been an total joy and it has been my absolute pleasure to be a part of your first year at school!

Crew Gerrard final blog (16/7/21)

Here is a letter to Crew Gerrard!

Dear Crew Gerrard,

Today was our last day with each other and I think it’s crazy how fast, but slow this year has gone. We have almost had a full year, but have been interrupted again by COVID-19. We started the year off as just 16 and have ended the year with 9 extra additions to make 25.

Since September, we have introduced HoWLs (work hard, get smart and be kind) and I think we have all improved in this area. We started our Expeditionary learning journey by making a brochure about your community and answered the guiding question ‘What does the Carcroft Community have to offer? ‘ I remember the fun we had delivering these brochures around the village in miserable weather, but that didn’t dampen our spirits.

Then came the time after Christmas, when we were closed several times, half were at home and half were at school. How crazy was that? Before Easter, we were all put together and I wouldn’t change that at all. Yes, you have been chatty and a little bit mad, but that’s all added to the fun!

Our second Expedition was the coolest one and I think the one we all enjoyed the most. We started this off with the hacker, which helped set the tone and excitement for the rest of this Expedition. How many school’s get to graffiti and then put it up in a shopping centre? You guys are really lucky and should be proud of the mural that you produced, with all of your own little touches! You have all become much more confident writers and mathematicians, along with getting better at reading.

We are really proud to have been your teachers and have had a lot of fun along the way. Yes, there have been some daft choices, but we all make mistakes and hopefully we will learn from them. You have also helped us through some really tough times, like when we had COVID, the car crash and when I lost my Nanna. You helped cheer us up during these times and I cannot thank you enough for that – you really were Crew.

We want to end the year with a bit of fun, which was a water fight. I know the adults definitely won…

A final thank you to the parents for all of the support during a strange year. You have helped us all out and that is what Crew is all about. Enjoy your summer Crew Gerrard and make sure you have the tonnes of fun – stay safe and make the most of it before Year 6!

From,

Mr G and Mrs Gilliland 😆

P.S. – Here is a video of our time together!

Bye EYFS

I just wanted to say Goodbye to all the children in EYFS. I am going to miss you all so much and it has been a pleasure to have been part of the EYFS team. I am so lucky to have been able to share your nursery and reception journey’s with you. Thank you to all the parents and carers for your support and thank you for all my wonderful cards and gifts ❤️❤️❤️ Miss Nicholson ❤️

Crew Wilson Final Review! 16.7.2021

I cannot believe I am writing the final blog of the year! How time flies! We have had such a great year despite the circumstances and I am so proud of each and every member of our Crew. Whilst the children have learned how to read, write and do maths, I have learned how to actually be a teacher and get the best out of them – I’ve not always got it right but the Crew have been there to help me every step of the way. We’ve faced some challenges throughout this dumpster-fire of a year but I can genuinely say I have absolutely loved it and I am so sad to see all my little mates go up to Year Two!

We’ve rounded off the year with a week of fun! Check out the highlights below, a full recap will be posted to This Week in the Phase shortly!

A Message to Parents:

I just want to say a massive thank you to all the parents that have supported me throughout the year. I couldn’t have done it without you! The amount of homework/home reading that has been completed this year is amazing and it has had a massive impact on your children’s progress, I soon regretted giving reading rewards out as I was spending £30 a weekend in B+M to fill the treat jar for the week! We’ve made amazing progress and you wouldn’t believe that these children missed a vital part of their foundation year! Everyone has worked so hard, got smart and being kind, and it is lovely to see the personalities that have developed and the relationships being created this year. It has been a pleasure to watch them grow and discover that they are more than capable of achieving anything they want if they concentrate and put their mind to it (rather than chatting!!!). I hope you all enjoyed reading your children’s reports and have celebrated their successes with them, they’ve worked so hard, I am proud and they should be too!

Thank you for all your kind gifts – I will have plenty to eat and drink over the summer holidays! It was so lovely to see all the handwritten cards from the children, I definitely didn’t cry one bit today 👀

Finally, have an amazing summer, we all deserve a massive rest and the chance to chill out, so stay safe and enjoy your freedom Crew Wilson, you have definitely earned it!

Thank you all for making my NQT year one to remember!

See you all in September in your brand new uniform!

Mr Wilson👨🏻‍🏫

One final blog for Crew Welburn 2020/2021

Where do I even begin with our final crew blog? Crew Welburn have absolutely blown me away this year. They have worked so hard on their HOWLs and embraced every challenge I have thrown at them throughout the year! I am so proud of everything each of them has achieved. From our very first day trying to line up ready to take a photo, to my last day with them on Wednesday where we had forest school and toasted marshmallows, we’ve managed to squeeze so much into this year…So I thought that we could use our final blog post to look back on some of my favourite photos from Crew Welburn’s school year…

Have an amazing summer making lots of memories!🌞🌞 I’ll see you all in September 💕

A message from Miss Laing…

A message from Miss Laing…

I just wanted to write one final post as we come to the end of another year.

I have now been the Headteacher for 5 years and this year really has been the best year for us so far despite the global pandemic.

I am so incredibly proud of how hard all of our community has worked this academic year including staff, pupils, parents, governors, our cleaning team, kitchen team and everyone else who has helped us along the way in order to ensure the very best educational experience for our children.

Together we have smashed this academic year and have supported the children of Carcroft to really be the best version of themselves.

With the support of XP we have been able to develop our curriculum offer so much more than I could have ever imagined. I am incredibly proud of the staff team, who have embraced the expeditionary learning model and have provided our pupils with an engaging and exciting curriculum which has resulted in beautiful products being created for all to see.

Delivering an expeditionary curriculum is no easy task, but our staff have been amazing. They have invested so much time, in order to ensure that children are working on case studies which result in purposeful products being crafted, whilst ensuring that they acquire the knowledge and skills outlined in the national curriculum. Thank you to our Teaching Staff Team for delivering such amazing and memorable experiences for our children.

Not only have our pupils created amazing work to be proud of, this work has been shared with the wider world for all to see including places around Carcroft and very soon UKS2 will have their artwork displayed in the Frenchgate Centre in the Town Centre. In addition, KS1 will have theirs in Flamingo Land, Scarborough! Simply amazing!

Watch this space over the summer, as we are going to be sharing some of the videos from throughout the year to remind us all of the amazing work which has been created right here in Carcroft.

Now for our pupils….. they have well and truly blown me away this year! At Carcroft, we always ensure that our school day is jam packed full of learning, but this year due to the pandemic, we have had to cram in even more. However, our pupils were not fazed in the slightest, they returned with such fantastic attitudes towards learning and have worked hard, to get smart every day! The quality of work produced by our pupils this year is the best I have seen. Children have really shown that they want to be the best version of themselves and have worked hard to achieve this. They are an absolute credit to us as a school, me as a Headteacher and you as parents. I know that in 2021/2022 we are going to achieve even more, as the children’s HoWLs move from 3’s to 4’s because who doesn’t want to be exceptional after all?

And finally, I would like to thank our Parents/Carers. What a year! The global pandemic has caused so many problems for school leaders across the country, however, for us at Carcroft, this was made so much easier with your continued support and co-operation, every step of the way! You have been such a huge support this year, working with us when changes were made etc, bubbles were closed and during school closure- we cannot thank you enough for this.

As we prepare to embark upon our new Chapter as Carcroft School, we have made some changes in order to further improve the quality of education on offer for our school and really try to make our school the best version of itself, as it’s what the children of Carcroft truly deserve.

I understand that at times we are not going to be able to please everyone, but please understand that when making decisions/changes, I only ever do anything to make this a better school for our community and I do believe that together, with your support, that is what we are doing, building a school to be proud of.

As we reopen in September as Carcroft School, leaving Carcroft Primary School behind, I am incredibly proud of all in which we have achieved this year and head into the summer knowing that our staff team could not have done anymore for the children this year.

I, along with the staff team cannot wait to see what the children achieve in 2021/2022 after such a fabulous year this year; we know that they are going to continue to create beautiful work to be proud of.

I am feeling so proud today of all we have achieved and hope that you too can feel proud of your son or daughter’s achievements as you walk/drive home for the last time this academic year! #wearecarcroft

On a final note, I would like to wish our families the very best and hope you all have an amazing summer making memories.

Thank you again,

Miss Laing

End of Year Letter

Dear Parents, Carers,

We break up for the Academic Year on Friday 16th after a very eventful school year.  Well done and good luck to all our Year 6 children who depart us today for their different secondary schools. Their Final Word presentations were remarkable and will leave a lasting memory for all staff involved.

It has been such a difficult year for us all but we should reflect on how well the community of Carcroft have coped with the pandemic, home learning and live teaching. Our structures such as Crew and Expedition have enabled our children to feel safe, support each other and produce great work.

Key Stage 1 have worked really hard this year and have made fantastic progress with both their academic progress and their Habits of Work and Learning. They have truly embodied what it means to be ‘crew’ and produce beautiful work across all their expeditions. The culmination of this beautiful work this term is their fantastic information boards which will be taking pride of place in Flamingo Land over the summer. Watch out for the video showing the journey from initial idea to creation being featured on Flamingo Land’s social media pages over the next few weeks!  Keep up the fantastic work Key Stage 1 – you have made us all incredibly proud this year and we cannot wait to see you continue to flourish as you progress through Carcroft School.

LKS2 have worked exceptionally hard to produce an informative Digestive System poster, as part of the ‘Why is the body a miraculous machine?’ expedition. This beautiful work will shortly be displayed in the local Health centres and pharmacies. During the early part of the year, LKS2 also developed a website about Carcroft and a kindness gift for China Cottage as part of the ‘What is the most valuable gift you can give?’ expedition.

While developing HoWLS, LKS2 have also worked hard to show kindness and improve the school environment by litter picking and helping Mr Hull to develop the school garden. We really have been blown away by the progress and character growth each and every child has made in such a different kind of year.

What a year it’s been for UKS2, with so many highlights. Our expeditionary journey began by creating leaflets celebrating our beautiful home village of Carcroft. The community were so happy to receive their copies of our final products and even stored them in their businesses and shops! During our Making a Stand expedition, we grew stronger as a crew, learning about important topics such as equality. And how amazing to say that in a few weeks our art mural will be shared in Frenchgate to encourage others to make a stand with us! We have achieved so much this year without Covid-19 stopping us.

In Y6 this year, the children completed their Final Word presentations to reflect on their character growth, beautiful work and academic success. This was nerve racking for most pupils as they presented their google slides online to parents, crew leaders, other staff and friends. This took hours and hours of hard work and preparation and they absolutely smashed it! They challenged themselves to step out of their comfort zones and aim for quality speaking and presenting skills – this made so many family members and staff beam with pride at the confidence and positivity the children demonstrated. Mrs Fox, amongst parents and staff, was brought to tears at the amazing reflections the children made on their Carcroft journey.

We would like to wish all the Y6’s the best of luck on their education moving forward. We are extremely proud of their achievements despite missing a big chunk of their learning. You will go on to achieve great things, just remember, work hard, get smart and always be kind!

We are looking forward to welcoming you all back next term. We start the term on 31st August, with a new uniform, new logo, new crews and an exciting curriculum. We hope to be part of the XP Trust by then and this will help the school continue to improve; improve teaching and learning, the school environment and engagement with the school community.

We will be opening the school on Wednesday 25th August between 10am and 1pm for you to collect the Free Uniform that we have organised for all parents who have completed this google form.

Mrs Lythe would like to remind you that our Wrap around provision will be starting from 31st August 2022. It will consist of a variety of activities including Cooking/Baking, Arts and Crafts, Sports, Music, Movies, Reading plus more.

Academic Calendar 21/22

Slight change to Carcroft Academic Calendar for 2021/2022

I hope that you are all keeping well and are starting to enjoy some more normality post lockdown as restrictions begin to ease.

I am writing regarding the school calendar for the academic year, starting in September (2021/2022). You may remember that I wrote to you earlier in the year, sharing that the XP calendar differed slightly to the Doncaster LA calendar, due to the fact that XP Trust pupils finished slightly earlier than the Doncaster Schools in July 2022, however, I took the decision to continue to finish our school year the same week as the Doncaster schools, for 2021/2022, with a view to then aligning with the trust fully from September 2022.

Unfortunately, after spending a considerable amount of time trying to figure out a way in which we could align with the trust the following year, whilst ensuring that the children and staff at Carcroft still have the same amount of summer holiday days as the rest of the UK in July/August 2022, we ideally need to finish our academic year on Thursday 21st July 2022, ensuring that our children and staff team access the full summer holiday in which they deserve, ready to commence the new academic year on Tuesday 30th August 2022, along with the rest of the XP Trust.

As mentioned above, we were really hoping to be able to try and align the calendars in 2022/2023, but this would mean us returning to school a week after the XP Trust schools in the September 2022 and with us sharing expedition planning and resources across the primary trust schools, we really do need to commence our academic year for 2022/2023 at the same time as the trust schools in order to ensure that the children experience the same learning as their trust peers across the trust from the off as much of this is going to be joint across the group of schools.

When I wrote to parents earlier in the year, one of the concerns raised was that siblings may not finish until the week after and therefore, parents would possibly require some support with childcare. Therefore, we are going to offer a free summer club for this week which will run during school hours Monday to the Thursday, in order to support any working parents who may require it.

I do hope that this does not cause you any inconvenience and hope that you understand the school’s rationale to align with the trust from this September, opposed to September 2022 as originally proposed. I do always try to ensure that all possible options are carefully considered before making a final decision, hence the delay in this message, in order to try and do the right thing by all stakeholders, however, if you do have any further questions/queries, please do not hesitate to contact the school via email. I have asked Mrs Lythe ( [email protected]) to be the main point of contact if you do have any queries regarding this and she will ensure that they are passed onto myself if she is unable to answer them.

The new calendar will be posted shortly.

Thank you in advance for your understanding regarding this matter.
