What a brilliant Thursday we have had in crew today!

The children celebrated their expedition learning by having a medieval banquet complete with our very own Lord and Lady! 🤴👸

They turned our class story “George and the Dragon” into an action sequence, sang songs and learnt how to bow and courtesy properly before the banquet began. They then enjoyed fresh fruit (thankyou kitchen staff) and crusty bread served to them by the servants (the teachers 😂)

We have had a brilliant day! Well done crew! X

Daily Blog Crew Godley 21.01.2021

We’ve had such an exciting day today! The alien wrote us a letter ❤ he is so scared and worried and has asked for our help. The children were so excited to receive the letter and set off to work straight away.

“Mrs Godley’s Crew

Please help me! Something terrible has happened! I went to visit my family on planet Venus for Christmas, but when I was travelling back to my own home on planet Mars, my Spaceship was hit by a giant rock flying through space!  My spaceship was badly damaged! It lost power and it fell quickly to planet Earth. I was so scared! My spaceship hit the ground and broke into lots of small pieces. Luckily my spacesuit protected my tiny body and I am still alive but my spaceship is broken and I don’t think that it can be fixed! I am lost and I feel very scared and worried. I have never been to your planet before. Everyone that I have seen looks strange – they don’t look like me at all!  I need your help. How can you help me? I need to get back to my family on plant Mars but I don’t know how to get there. I need you to help me to hide and to stay safe while I am resting on planet Earth. My arm is broken and it needs time to heal before I can travel back to Mars safely.

Thank you ,

Zig Zog,

Your new friend  from planet Mars”

This led us to explore the planet Venus – what did the planet look like where the alien was traveling from? We used pastels to create our own planets to share with the alien to make him feel welcome and show him that we want to help him get home to Mars. This sparked discussion about the alien and it’s appearance and what he might need to survive on such a hot planet! We wrote a letter back to the alien to gather more information. We then used our fine motor skills to sculpt what we thought the alien may look like, we know he is tiny!

Our crew today really has shown we are crew by their kind and thoughtful discussions around supporting the alien. Shania even offered to take the alien to the doctors to ensure his arm could be fixed ❤

Today’s HoWL heroes are:

Working Hard – Dylan. Dylna worked hard today with his art skills and carefully selected colours to represent the planet Venus.

Getting Smart – Lilly and Reggie. Both Lilly and Reggie worked hard today in quick maths to recognise and form numbers correctly. Reggie absolutely blew me away with how much he has been practising at home, keep up the great work!

Thursday ✅

Highlight of the day:

We have had a medieval banquet in our expedition lesson this afternoon and have had a real taste of castle life! We bowed to the Royals, ate some yummy bread and fruit, we had a jousting battle and we even danced a medieval jig, it was so much fun!

Howl Heroes:

No Heroes today as we were so involved with our banquet we forgot to do them!

Howl Score:

2.8

We have been very reflective as a crew today.  Whilst we have had fun this afternoon, some of the crew could have worked a lot harder this morning, so that is their challenge for tomorrow to get those Howl scores higher!

Crew Longley and Crew Shields

Another busy day for the two crews. Today we have been reading for understanding, improving our handwriting and learning about Roman mosaics.

Longley Crew Average:  3.4

Shields Crew Average : 2.7

Targets for this week : 3.3

How can we improve?

Tomorrow, we need to ensure that we are listening and ready to work hard. When learning we sometimes drift and we need to make sure that we listen, try and work independently.

Online Howl Hero – Lydia B. This was for a fantastic rap that she had created about the Romans

Shields Howl Hero – Maddie. She really has tried hard, shown beautiful presentation and independence.

Longley Howl Hero- Sophia. Sophia has blown us away with her presentation and her positive work ethos today.

Crew Marsh: 21/01/21

My star moment today was seeing the improvement as a crew they have made to correcting their learning with purple pen, this is a massive step forward and has made a real difference in their learning. Well done Crew Marsh, keep it up!! 😁😎👏

Average is: 3!👌

Our Weekly HoWL target is: 3.1

How can we develop this tomorrow?

Crew Marsh need to continue to be more mindful of putting their hand up rather than getting out of their seat, and making sure that we are listening and following instructions the first time.

Today’s howl hero is:

Get Smart hero today is Mark! 🙌😁😁😁

Mark has blown me away today with his amazing ideas in the writing lesson! His handwriting was lovely and he tried really hard. Well done Mark, it is well deserved today!💕

Remote Learning Offer Jan 21

FAO Remote Learners (home learners)

Dear Parent/Carer,

I would just like to update you on our remote learning offer in which we have in place for those learning from home during Lockdown 3.

As you are aware, we have been working with parents to seek their views regarding the offer and in addition we have sought views from the Teaching Staff team too.

We decided upon an approach called a synchronous approach, whereby the Teacher delivers to those in school and those at home via a live stream. We wanted to trial this in order to keep things as consistent as possible for both groups of pupils and hoped it would also support to meet the learning needs of both groups.

Although in the first week this seemed to go pretty well, it’s not felt as successful in the last week or so. Mrs Fox and Mr Longley, both Senior Leaders at the school shared that they were finding the approach difficult to get right for both groups of learners, therefore, I sought views from the rest of the team. Staff feel that they are struggling to provide the correct balance of learning for both those in class and those at home, as we have learned that pupils at home need a different balance to those in school. In particular, we understand that pupils cannot be expected to sit in front of a screen for most of the day, nor can we expect them to engage in the same way as those in school.

Therefore, in light of this, we have made some adaptations to our delivery model for those at home, in order to see if we feel this is a better suited model. We are going to trial this model starting from today and will seek feedback from parents and staff next week in order to gauge with this is a better model and make any changes we feel necessary based on feedback.

All pupils (Year 1- 6- we are working with EYFS slightly differently)

All pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 are expected to continue to sign in at their registration time via Google Classroom (Google Meet) and will take part in a crew session with their crew.

Children across Key Stage 2 will also be asked to check in throughout the morning with their online Teacher and will also be asked to check out with their Crew and Crew Leader at the end of the day. Therefore, they will still have lots of face to face interaction throughout the day.

KS1 (Year 1 and 2)

Year 1 and 2 pupils will access 3 x 30 minute live sessions throughout the day in order to cover their core subjects including RWI, Writing and Maths. These will be delivered by the Year 1/2 team- staff will be in touch regarding timings for your child.

KS2 (Year 3-6)

Pupils in Year 3 to 6 will be placed into a specific online learning classroom. There will be a Year 3 and 4 Classroom and a Year 5 and 6 Classroom. Therefore, after Crew registration (log into their current classroom), they will then be allocated a classroom for their learning. These Classrooms are being led by Mr Longley in Year 3 and 4 and Mr Gerrard in Year 5 and 6. Mr Gerrard will also be supported by Mr McCusker too.

The model may vary across KS2, as we are finding that the age range of the pupils is too wide to deliver a consistent model, however, it is likely that there will be some ‘live’ lessons, as well as the use of ‘modelled slides’ whereby the Teacher uses a pre-recorded voice over for the children to listen back to. In addition, sometimes, if it’s an ongoing activity or fairly independent, as we know many of our children are ‘doers’ and like to get on, there will be a task uploaded with an explanation for them to just get on and do.

Staff will be available throughout the school day to chat on the chat function or on a meet call with pupils to support with independent tasks etc.

We hope that this model is a better blend for our online learners and better meets their individual learning needs too.

As I shared, we are trialling this and in school, we are calling this our ‘Plan B’. However, it may need further tweaks, in which case, we need to know. I will send out a Google Form in the middle of next week, once we have given it a go for a few days running.

We will continually strive to get this right for everyone and thank you for your support during this time, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries or require any support.
