The children in nursery have worked hard to bet smart using their scissors today. We have learnt that we need to point our thumb to the ceiling to cut snips in the paper.
“Its tricky” said Harlow. ”Ive done it” said Archie. The children were so proud of themselves and loved cutting the colourful strips of paper.
The children in nursery having been looking at the word “soft”. We explored custard in our tough tray and spoke about how it feels.
“I think it smells like strawberries, its a bit sticky” said Elsie. ”It’s soft and warm” said Rose.
We have really enjoyed putting our fingers in!
I wonder what we will have in our tough tray next week.
Crew Marsh worked really hard in their science lesson yesterday, organising materials in to soft and hard.
Shout out to Esme, who has produced some beautiful arithmetic and writing work at the weekend. She has self assessed her times table knowledge, used working models for her long division and highlighted year 6 writing standards within her writing. I think we have a teacher in the making! Amazing effort!
Lots of children do extra revision and learning at home in Crew Mcloughlin and it makes me beam with pride 🤩 Lets keep up the hard work!
In Crew Mcloughlin we have been getting smart in arithmetic, learning the coin method to efficiently work out long division. We spoke about how we would leave dividing by 2 digit numbers till the end of tests as they do take time and stamina. Great mathematical work!
In our independent writing today, we have used our amazing planning we generated to write our first plot point. We even visited the quad to do this as the sun was shining 🌞 We used our critique norms to critique each others work. This was really helpful in order to improve our writing and ensure we had hit our targets we had set ourselves. We cannot wait till we are showcasing our final product and our writing is read to our audience – the Carcroft community.
We started our day with our caring crew. Here we continued to think about families and people who care for us. We started to discuss how we can support our families. We discussed some of our favourite memories then we worked as a crew to build our own acrostic poem about family. Finally we worked independently to create our own. We shared these as part of our debrief.
During reading, we started to learn about forces. We used lots of strategies to develop our fluency then worked collaboratively during our book talk session.
In writing we used the planning we had built last week to write PP2 of our independent write. Some great writing by all 🙂 A great day MI 🙂
Today, we have started to use our magnetic boards to blend sounds in to words and read them! We were very excited to have a go, and had very proud faces when we realised how smart we were getting. Miss Welburn is so impressed at how well we are all doing with our reading!
On Friday, LKS2 had a carrousel of activities, which enabled the children to experience rationing, as if we were transported back in time to the Second World War. With Mrs Elmer, the children were able to create their own ration books and understand the importance they played in feeding the country. In Miss Flaherty’s session, children were busy being bakers – they made and baked their own bread. Finally, in Mr Gerrard’s group, children were completing a taste test of different foods that fed Britain during the Second World War. Children were either pleased to be eating spam, corned beef, crackers, tinned fruit and rice pudding, or for a number, they were not!
This week in arithmetic we have gone from fearing division to confidently leading our own learning and completing lots of division questions, and even getting them correct 🤩 Then Miss Mcloughlin moved our learning on by challenging us with long division (we used coin method to help us with our times tables to work these division questions out). Very proud moment when the Crew had reflected on their achievements and challenged themselves even further! We’re Getting Smart Crew!
We have openly admitted this morning in celebration crew that we haven’t been going on TTrockstars or trying to improve our timetable knowledge at home, this really will help us with every aspect of arithmetic in Y6 and beyond!
