As part of our first week back, we are focusing on crew and building our positive relationships. To give us focus, Year 4’s guiding question is: How can we work together to achieve an end goal?
To allow children an opportunity to do this, they worked in small groups to make some buns. However, they were only given the ingredient but no instructions. The children then had to use experts in their group to support them. Thankfully, everyone was successful and they got to enjoy a bun during afternoon crew.
When I asked the children how this activity helped answer the guiding question, they explained that they had to communicate (talk about what to do and how), they used others as experts because these children baked regularly, everyone had a responsibility to ensure they had the correct ingredients and equipment, they supported each other, they took turns but also allocated each other with jobs to ensure everyone was involved. By doing all of these things, it meant they were able to make a bun which was edible.
