As some of you may be aware, all year 4 pupils will be completing their MTC (Multiplication Tables Check) over the next 2 weeks (05.06.23 – 16.06.23), with the first round of testing starting tomorrow.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It also enables us, as teachers, to identify those pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.
Testing will be done in no particular order so please don’t worry if you child comes home and says that they have not done the test yet but their peer has. As long as they complete it in the two weeks given then this is fine! ☺ For some children who we feel could benefit from any extra little practise this week they may not set their test until next week.
If you have a child/ren who are in Year 4, then they will be practising their timestables lots in school this week and may come home and share their practise scores with you (they will not know their final test scores until next month). If their score is below 25 (the pass mark) then it might be worth doing an extra little practise with them at home this week. Below are some useful links that you could use, or you could simply chant times tables together, write them down or do a quickfire test!

To make you aware the MTC test is a timed test where children are given 6 seconds to answer a multiplication question. The test comprises of 25 questions and to pass children are expected to achieve 25/25.

If you have any questions or concerns then please do not hesitate to pop into school and either speak to myself (Mrs Elmer) or your child’s Crew Leader.
Many thanks for your continued support.
