Another really focussed grammar session today 🙂
Rainbow fish
Last week we looked at how to be kind, we did this through the rainbow fish book. We looked at how rainbow fish wasn’t kind to begin with but then ended up being kind in the end and this made him feel happy. We created our own kindness fish tank to remind us to always be kind. We looked at ordering the story and verbally answering questions about what we had read.
Grammar
This week in Crew Marsh we have gone right back to basics and unpicked what a letter, word and sentence is. The children were fab at comparing these and understanding how letters make words and words make sentences.
Publishing our writing
We are really enjoying publishing our persuasive letters and can’t wait to get these sent to Mrs Atherton.
Persuasive letter writing in MI
Today we finished plot point 3 of our persuasive letter! We only have our conclusion left to write then we can send our letters to Mrs Atherton 🙂
Continuing our story
Yesterday, we put our pirate hats back on to explore the next part of our story – Pirates Love Underpants! We used our climbing, crawling and swinging skills to explore the island before crossing a bridge that was really high up with snappy crocodiles underneath! We were very brave! Afterwards, we talked about how we had moved across the bridge using our action lens and verbs, ready to write the next part of our story.
Grammar day
Today in grammar the children were learning how to use a dictionary.
Character Description
Today we started out character description in writing. The character we have chosen is Augustus Gloop. The children had 6 different pictures and they had to have ago at describing each one using different adjectives.
Building Background Knowledge – Experience Lesson
Today, Crew Hamill continued with their new writing genre: a character description. In this lesson we identified as much information about Augustus Gloop in order to be able to write a description about his appearance and his personality/attitude. We started our BBK by writing down everything we already knew about him, recalling information from our reading lessons (in which we focused on a poem all about him) and from our previous writing lessons (in which we wrote a narrative based on a short section of the film). We then watched some clips of Augustus from the film and used the to add further information to our BBK. Finally, we looked at some different images of Augustus at different points throughout the film and really drew our attention to his appearance so that we could add even more information and create a bank of vocabulary about his key features: eyes, mouth, hair and clothes. We are going to use all of this information in our writing next week to help us describe him in detail!
Hooking into our writing!
Over the next two weeks in Crew MW, we are going to be story writers! We’re looking at the story, ‘Pirates Love Underpants!’ This morning, we’ve got into character as pirates, hopped on our pirate ship, and travelled across the ocean until we heard the captain shout, ‘land ahoy!’ Once we had all jumped off the ship, we explore the island that we found, and used our notice lens to describe what we could see. We can’t wait to write the first part of our story!
