New Class text

Today, we have started our new class text. We are excited to discover how this links to our Spring expedition.

Since September, we’ve also read George and the giant Peach, History Hackers – A Roman Rescue and The Night I met Father Christmas. We also read some of The Christmasaurus but unfortunately we didn’t get time to finish it and January isn’t really the time for a Christmas novel.

Crew Shields absolutely love our shared reading text and it’s something we look forward to. Everyone is always asking “Just one more chapter” 😊

French – Crew Shields 🇫🇷👖👚

We have been looking at items of clothing and identifying any cognates or near cognates with the translations. We then discussed the different nouns for clothing items and how the determiner changes depending on whether it is masculine, feminine or plural. We applied our new knowledge by completing a written task that required us to think about the rules of the French language and whether the determiners we had chosen were appropriate for the noun. We worked really hard and the discussions we had in our groups were really helpful.

Christmas Calendar

Today the children have taken home their Christmas calendars. We have drafted and redrafted the work as we’ve gone along and started to show some improvement with our painting skills. As a crew, we have discussed that with more time, we could have improved them even more but we were happy with the progress we’d made so far and hope to continue to develop our painting skills. Well done Crew Shields for your perseverance and resilience.

The Polar Express – Christmas writing

Last week, we finished our Christmas writing. The children spent some time reading their writing aloud to their peers to ensure that it was punctuated accurately and that it made sense. This has been their best piece yet where children met all the learning targets and showed some stamina for writing. I’m excited to see what their next piece brings…

Beautiful work over the last 2 weeks!

It has been lovely finding out what children have been working on across school. Well done to all the children who have shared their beautiful work with me over the last 2 weeks. Some fantastic work 🙂

Acrylic techniques

We continued our art slice by practicing different acrylic paint techniques.

Then, we started the first draft of our Christmas calendar. This involved using the sponge technique to create the background using colour mixing. We have already started to critique our first attempt and realised we’ll need to be more precise with colour mixing on our second draft.

Finally, we started to sketch the trees for each season. Again, we started to reflect and think about what we’ll need to do differently on the next draft.
