This week in magic maths we have been assessing our understanding of timetables before introducing our Timetables Stick next week which we are very excited for! I’ve been impressed by the collaboration and resilience shown by the children to complete some tricky, timed challenges. We have been developing our understanding of our six times table and ended the week with a race against the clock. Could we recall our number facts, in a sentence, then record the answer? Sharni-Mae and Declan achieved this with 37 seconds to spare!
This week we have been unpicking what it means to be kind and how we can apply this knowledge when exploring the purpose of anti- bullying week.
The theme of the week has been respect, we’ve watched different clips to showcase different examples of respect and then discussed the video as a crew, creating anchor charts to show what it means to us. We have thought a lot about respectful language and what disrespectful responses would sound like and what respectful responses would look like.
We have created anti-bullying posters to share with our families to show what we have been exploring this week in crew.
In our debrief of the week we thought about why it is important to respect each other, how respect helps us when making friends and solving problems. We concluded that when everyone treats each other with kindness and respect then we have a much more positive time with our peers. This has had an impact on our HoWLs this week and we have seen an improvement in our ‘Be Kind’ HoWL.
We ended the week with ‘pie’ing’ Mr T to raise money for Children In Need. Needless to say, the children had great fun! We’d like to thank all of our parents in school who have contributed to this great cause and we raised a whopping £121! Thank you to everyone for your continued support.
I have been so impressed with the children’s resilience with reading this week. We have achieved level gaming and improved our comprehension skills. Leon and Oliver have been working hard in RWI and applying this when reading speedy green words. Great work, Crew Godley!
The children in Crew Godley have been working collaboratively, learning how to gracefully handle both victories and losses. They’ve shown great teamwork and sportsmanship, supporting each other and celebrating the journey of playing together, regardless of the outcome.
Today, we have discussed the reasons why we celebrate bonfire night, including the history of Guy Faulks. We then thought about firework safety and the reasons why this is so important. We then applied our learning to a kahoot quiz!
Crew Godley have activated their new unit of maths, addition and subtraction by playing Uno addition. Our first job was to determine whether we would use one or two digit numbers, challenging ourselves. We then selected uno cards at random to add together. The challenge was to complete as many as we could in 5 minutes! We were all successful whilst showing off our quick fire skills.
Today we explored evacuation in our expeditionary learning, building on the knowledge we already had acquired during hook week. We imagined we were evacuees living in London and how we and our families would feel going on a journey we had no idea how it would end. We had to think carefully about the items we would be able to take and how to transport these. We concluded that our gas mask box and gas mask would be the most important items to ensure we were able to protect ourselves in case of a gas attack.
Our first task was to design a net for a gas mask box, we created miniature gas masks using clay. We thought about how we could make these attractive for younger children to wear, using bright colours. This will be our next task. Our designs are coming along lovely. Watch this space for the finished product.
Crew Godley had their first guitar lesson today and Brett was so impressed by our determination to improve our skills. He said we were naturals! We can’t wait for our lesson next week!
