Listening for sounds in our environment 👂

We’ve been discussing the different sounds we might hear in our environment. We wrapped up warm and decided to go on a sound hunt around our outdoor area. It was a little bit quiet at first and all we could hear were the birds tweeting in the trees but then we started to hear more and more sounds around us – cars and vans, a dog barking, the older children playing on their playground, and even a plane in the sky! The loudest sound we heard was the fan from the kitchen, we huddled around the gate to get a closer look at where the noise was coming from!

Mr Potato Head! 🥔👀

Using healthy vegetables to make our very own Mr Potato Heads! We had to think about how we could attach each part to the potato, making sure that we were keeping ourselves and others safe by using the cocktail sticks carefully. We really enjoyed this activity!

Terrific teeth! 🦷🪥

We have been learning all about how to keep our teeth nice and clean, and why it is important for us to do this. To begin, we practised using a toothbrush by acting out the steps needed to brush our teeth. Miss McGlone then gave us out very own toothbrush and we did a super job of using it to brush backwards and forwards, up and down making sure we had got into all the sneaky spots. Brushing our tongues is also super important so we practised this too – it really tickled!

In provision, we had lots of fun because we had to use the brushes to clean the sets of teeth! They were so dirty and covered in food and bacteria so we used our brushing skills to make sure they were squeaky clean – we really enjoyed this activity!

Nursery hook week – Tasting fruit and making fruit kebabs 🍇🍈🍌🫐

This morning in Crew McGlone, we had a fruit tasting session! We tried a number of different fruits: banana, grapes, melon, nectarines and blueberries. We noticed that some of the fruits were juicy, some were even a little bit slippery and kept jumping out of our fingers! We worked on talking to our peers using full sentences by saying which fruit was our most favourite and which was our least favourite.

In provision we chose our favourite fruits to add to our wooden skewer to make a fruit kebab. We had to be really careful with the pointed end of the skewer and we tried really hard to concentrate so that the fruit went on and did not fall off.

Then came the best part… snack time! We got to enjoy our kebabs with milk at snack time. We talked about whether our kebabs were tasty or not and what our favourite bit was to eat! There was even spare fruit that we got to share between us as an extra treat! Yummy! 😋
