Today we explored what it means to be a good neighbour in our community.
We collaborated with our partners to think about good choices we could make in our communities rather than the suggested scenarios. We all made pledges to ensure we are showing kindness to our neighbours.
In crew today we have been learning about the importance of keeping ourselves online. This is an aspect we have spoke about before as it is essential that we conduct ourselves responsibility online. We thought about how to keep smart online and if we were worried about something then we ~ stop, close and tell someone. We were able to identify some of the issues that we may encounter online and how important it is to speak to others. We then created some posters with ideas of how to stay safe online.
This morning we had a great crew discussion about road safety. We talked about how to keep ourselves safe when we are out and about especially about focussing on what can distract us and drivers. We also talked about what we needed to wear, where best to cross the road and explored the green code code. Finally, we played a game at the end to put into practise what we had learnt. Lots of us got 7/7!
This morning in crew, we looked at a story called ‘Topsy and Tim help a friend’. We paused the video to look at the different actions each character carried out and discussed whether they were kind choices, or unkind choices. Here were some of the things we talked about…
What were the unkind children doing?
They tripped the boy up! – Emma
Then they laughed at him when he fell down – Harlow
They threw his bag – Araya
They were bullying him! – Kingsley
Because they did lots of unkind things, not just one and it made it made him sad – Hilaryanna.
They tricked him! – Alyssa
What did Topsy and Tim do to help?
They told the grown ups – Elsie
Then the grown ups talked to all the children. The boy was kind then and he said sorry – Max
We learnt a lot about kind and unkind actions from this story!
Continuing with our anti bullying work this week in crew, we have looked at positive relationships. We’ve explored who we can talk to and trust. We discussed how important it is that we can build positive relationships with adults. This could be a family member, a carer, a teacher or another trusted adult who makes us feel safe. We now know that if we are feeling sad, upset or nervous we can share that with someone who we trust.
In crew this week we have been looking at positive relationships and who we can trust. We have talked about how a trusting adult makes us feel and how they can support us. It has been great to look at this in bullying week as we now know, if we are feeling sad we can share that with someone who we trust.
This week we have been learning all about being kind and sharing in Crew Dorman. We practised our sharing skills playing a game called ‘pass the ball’ and we worked as a team on building a tower! Taking it in turns to place each brick on top of the other. We wondered?…..Could we work as a team and place each block carefully? We tried our best, took turns and at the end had a nice high tower. Even though the tower fell a few times we kept going practising our team work and resilience! Mrs Dorman and Mrs Mason praised our teamwork!
This afternoon, we were fortunate to have a visit from firemen from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. We learnt all about fire alarms, fire safety and how to keep ourselves safe in an emergency. We found out it was essential to have a battery in your fire alarm and to test it works at least one day a week. Next, we learnt all about fire safety and what to do in case we catch fire. We need to stop, drop and roll to make sure the fire doesn’t get worse. Finally, in an emergency it is important to leave everything and leave by the nearest fire exit. What an informative afternoon we have all had.
This morning’s crew challenge was to work in a mini crew to build the tallest tower! We decided to use our blocks from the small world area and to work in teams of boys and girls to create the towers. We worked hard to make sure everyone was included and to build the tallest, strongest towers!
