Crew Mcloughlin: Today’s Post 14/09/20

Today’s highlights✨

Crew Mcloughlin have been reading and estimating numbers on number lines up to 10,000! Now that is tricky! Most children applied this knowledge to reasoning problems too! During The Write Stuff lesson we have nearly finished writing our first paragraph. Our stimulus is the film Inside Out so the children are loving watching clips and narrating the story in the third person.

This afternoon we used the programme Scratch to design our computer games we had planned previously. The children worked fantastically to support each other to ensure our assets were designed and had different costumes. We even used the microphones to record our own sound effects- which the children loved! Watch this space for future game designers!

HoWL Heros

Wok Hard

Work Hard- Lila- always focusing on her learning whatever the lesson and has shown this today by contributing well to class discussion, especially in our writing lesson.

Get Smart- Shaydon- Living by our crew motto if you work hard you get smart – Shaydon has shown exceptional listening throughout the day and has exceeded his expected standard and hit his green targets in writing by using a metaphor.

Be kind- Lacey has shown great teamwork skills within crew and has stood out due to her patience when helping others in our crew that need help in all lessons.

I cannot wait for another fantastic day filled with smiley faces and lots of HoWL points! 😊

14.09.20 – Today’s Blog

Good evening all,

We’ve had a busy day today with our learning and it has been great to see our crew supporting each other throughout the day!  We have been focusing on our ‘Work Hard’ HoWL and thinking about how we can show this to any visitors to our crew and will be putting our ideas together over the week.

Our star moment of the day was easily our writing lesson and it’s great to see our budding authors’ confidence growing with each session.  We’ll be showing you some of our work soon!

Our daily HoWL average for today was 2.5.  For this, each member of our crew rates themselves based on our ‘Work Hard’, ‘Get Smart’ and ‘Be Kind’ HoWLs and I have been impressed with how reflective and honest these scores are.  We all know that to improve on this tomorrow, we’ll need to focus on working a little quicker and ensure that we are focused throughout each lesson.

This leads us onto our HoWL Heroes for today.

Work Hard – Tia!  Well done for your positive attitude and your tremendous work throughout the day!

Get Smart – Bobby-Joe!  Well done for your concentration and listening skills today, especially with helping your crew by remembering our rules for rounding in maths!

Be Kind – Heidi and Madison!  Well done for your kindness throughout the day, girls, in helping one of our crew over a tough start to the day, we’re lucky to have you both in our crew!

Daily Blog: 14.09.2020

What a great start to the week! We have been super impressed by how well the children are working towards their HOWLS (Habits of Work and Learning). We have focused on ‘Be Kind’, this applies not only to our crew members but our environment too. The children have been making sure they have respected our crew members and our belongings.

Our HOWL Heroes

Be Kind – Evelyn and Freddie are such a great role models in EYFS, they are always setting a great example and have impeccable manners.

Get Smart – Reggie persisted when he was making a mask and through of a very inventive way to attach his lollypop stick to keep it upright. Reggie then worked collaboratively with his peers to help them do the same.

Work Hard – SJ, SJ articulated so clearly how he could ‘work hard’ he explained that in order to work hard he had to concentrate on one thing at a time and keep focused. Such an amazing response! We were super proud.

The highlight of our day was creating our own jumping blocks, this prompted lots of discussions around shape, space and measure and counting. The sun also provided us with a great opportunity to explore our shadows.

Daily Blog: 14/09/2020

I can’t believe Monday is over already, and what a fantastic day we have had!

Our Whole Crew target was to listen to instructions first time, every time and we have smashed it today – our crew have been so engaged in their learning, I’ve heard many great collaborative conversations taking place in different areas of the classroom so it is great to see our children coming back into school and working hard to support each other, even after the disjointed year they have had so far.

Highlights from today:

Counting forwards to 10 using Ten-Frames – every single child in Crew Wilson blew me away with this today – test their knowledge at home and see if they can remember what they have learned about number bonds and counting forward from zero!

We introduced actual robots into our computing lessons – We have had some good laughs programming the robot and watching it go crazy on the carpet!

Crew Wilson were so well behaved and respectful to their Kixx Coach this morning, we had such good reports from staff when they returned to the classroom, well done to everyone!

HOWL Heroes

Work Hard – April  – For excellent work in Maths

Get Smart – Tommy F – For working brilliantly alongside his partner in computing.

Be Kind – Bobby-J  – For reminding his crew of the cleanliness expectations of the classroom.

Totals

Work Hard : 25

Get Smart : 11

Be Kind : 22

Crew Kent 14.9.20

What a fantastic day!!! Crew Kent got going straight away working hard on their Arithmetic and Math’s before settling down before break for some spelling. The crew did not let up after break either with their focus and hard work continuing on through into English right up until lunchtime. The children could not believe the morning had gone so quickly. In the afternoon we jotted out some routes on our maps of Carcroft and then went and explored the local area using the routes the children had planned. The day was finished off with a brilliant crew session with lots of children going home with smiling faces.

Howl heroes for today – Hard Work = McKenzie, Get Smart = Chloe and Being Kind = Sophia.

Crew Fox: Today’s Blog 14.09.20

This morning, Crew Fox have been reading and writing numbers up to 10 million – wow! Most children were accessing reasoning problems… super hard work. During The Write Stuff English sessions, we are using the film Inside Out as a stimulus… we’ve started our second paragraph all about Riley (the main character) moving house… stay tuned for our class sentence stackers!

This afternoon the children have had the opportunity to design their own computer games. They worked in pairs to collaborate ideas and support one another with the designing process. They had to choose a theme, a character, a strategy and a reward! We can’t wait to put our ideas into practice and create our games using our coding knowledge.

Daily Blog – 14/9/20

Star moment of the day:

Today we have worked super hard at understanding the reproductive parts of a flower in Science. The children had the opportunity to dissect a flower and label the different parts using what they learned in class.

Today’s HoWL average is: 2.7

Children score themselves HoWL points on the end of every school day, they score against Work Hard, Get Smart and Be Kind. Crew Shields has become very honest with scoring themselves at the end of the day and they are starting to explain why they think this.

How can we improve this tomorrow?

Tomorrow Crew Shields need to make sure that everyone is listening to every instruction and then being able to follow it.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

This week we are concentrating on working hard because if you work hard, you get smart!

Our work hard hero today is: Loghan!!
