A lovely sunny day and it was lovely to see our Crew enjoy Kixx in the sunshine this morning.

Highlight of the day:

Today, we discussed what it means to work hard at school and what it looks like in our Crew ready for our presentation in our Crew assembly on Thursday. Here is a sneaky peak to one of our thoughts…

In maths, all the children could confidently use equipment to partition a 2 digit number. I am super impressed with how many children could write an equation to show how they had partitioned their 2 digit number. Keep up the hard work Crew Flaherty. We are very proud of you.

In geography, we worked hard and collaborated with each other to create our own compass.

HOWLs

Our HOWL average for today is 2.8.

Hi all,

Star moment of the day:

Crew Marsh were fab in our maths lesson today, they used 100, 10, and 1’s to help show how you add 100 more or less to the correct columns. The children really worked hard!

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.1!

Weekly HoWl target: 3.0

How can we improve this tomorrow?

Again, in the afternoon Crew Marsh need to make sure that they are listening to instructions and working hard. We have got really good at doing this in a morning.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

This week we are concentrating on working hard, as if you work hard, you get smart!

Our work hard hero today is: Lottie!

Lottie you have shown me so many times today that you were working hard, this was super to see! Keep up the hard work! 👍

Tantalizing Tuesday! 🤩

Today has been a tremendous day in Crew Elmer full of lots of learning, lots of working and lots of fun!

Star moment of the day:

Today I was really impressed with how quickly Crew Elmer grasped the concept of 10 and 100 more or less in our maths lesson this morning. The children were able to use their previous knowledge of place value and multiples, as well as number lines, number squares and money to support them in finding 10 and 100 more or less than a range of 3-digit numbers. Lacey, Harry, Lily and Ray you were fantastic at this well done! 👏 See below for some snaps of their great work! 👍

Another ‘star moment’ of the day was the great team work in our Kixx PE session this morning. Crew Elmer were great at cheering each other on, shouting encouraging words and praising each other for their hard work. This was lovely to see! 💕

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.1

This is the same as yesterday and just shows how consistent children are being in achieving those 3’s and 4’s. Keep this up Crew Elmer! 👍

This week’s HoWL target is: 2.9

How can we improve this tomorrow?

Tomorrow Crew Elmer need to make sure that we are ‘working hard’ at all times. We need to fiddle with equipment less and spend less time wandering around the classroom when we should be sat down ‘working hard’.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Crew Elmer nominated Ray for ‘working hard’ all day. Ray is always focused on the task in hand, whether this is specific work in lesson time, walking down the corridor or being ready to learn. He is always just doing the right thing. You are a great role model to others Ray! Well done!  👏

Daily Blog – 22.09.20

Good evening,

Star moment of the day:

Our star moment of the day was easily the enthusiasm everyone showed during our writing lesson.  We have been practising how to become better authors and in today’s session, I was blown away by the support everyone gave each other, whether it was to help with correcting spelling mistakes to saying what they liked about each other’s sentences.  A great collaborative lesson and one where I can confirm had everyone smiling…and not just because of my Happy Socks!

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.1

We did it.  I knew we would.  After a strong start, we’ve improved again!  A great writing session followed by some focused work in reading and maths means that we’ve all shown that we can Work Hard today!  I think we can do even better still tomorrow though, after all, we do have computing!

How can we improve this tomorrow?

The clear area for improvement tomorrow is our listening skills.  Whether that’s listening to instructions or simply listening to what our friends are saying, I’ll be keeping an eye out to how closely we are paying attention to what is being said in our crew.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Get Smart – Max!  Max has had an amazing day today, well done!  I think it’s fair to say that writing isn’t his favourite subject but the enthusiasm, concentration and amount of work that he produced today was fantastic.  That alone would have been impressive but to find time to also support those around him with ideas and spellings made him an easy choice for our HoWL Hero today!

We have had another busy day in nursery! The children are settling in so well, they have made me so proud! 🥰

The children were so excited to do playdough disco for the first time today! This is a great activity to strengthen our muscles in our fingers, which will help us to be great writers! The children did fantastic splatting and rolling the playdough to the music and they listened to instructions so well! 🌟

Some groups of children went out for Forest school where they made bird feeders and explored the woods 🌳🌿🍃 The children worked excellent together and were so proud of their creations!

HOWL Hero

We have all been trying really hard to understand what it means to ‘be kind’ and how we treat others. The children are all showing me great examples of this, I’m always spoilt for choice who to pick! 🥰

Being Kind – Sophia

Sophia often does lovely kind gestures without being asked and really demonstrates she understands what it means to be kind. For example, she has held doors open for the kitchen staff bringing our lunch and helped her friends put their belongings away. Well done Sophia!

Crew Mcloughlin Blog 22/09/20

Todays Highlights ✨

This morning we had COJO, which me and the children thoroughly enjoyed! We had to work hard in teams which tested our communication skills. We used gutter pipes to get balls from one side of the room to the other. The children had to work together and each have a pipe to build up a track for the ball to roll down and then finally making their way to the bucket to put the ball in. This really got us working hard as a Crew which then helped us with our learning for the rest of the day. We definitely worked as a Crew for the rest of the day! I am so proud!

HoWL Hero’s 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️

Harry- Work Hard- Harry always works hard but went above and beyond today. When preparing to present our video to the rest of the phase about how we work hard, Harry volunteered himself to speak about how Crew Mcloughlin meet our expectations. This just shows how much of a good role model Harry is when it comes to working hard. What a valued Crew member for us to have!

Abigail- Get Smart- Abigail takes pride in all her work and completes it to a high standard. Today she has pushed herself above expected in maths and should be very proud. Keep up the fantastic work Abigail!

Jessica- Be Kind- Jess always looks after all equipment and belongings and ensures they are all back in the correct place. This helps us as a crew maintain a lovely learning environment for us to Work Hard in. Thank you Jess!

HoWL average: 2.9! Well done, I know we can beat that and be even better tomorrow!

Crew Longley – 22.09.2020

Terrific Tuesday!

Star moment of the day:

We continued developing our computer science skills this afternoon💻 . We used our developing understanding of coding to complete scratch challenges. Working in pairs, the crew had to show resilience, perseverance and continue to work hard. They did this while helping each other and without any adult help. They truly were fantastic!

This week’s HoWL target is: 2.6

How can we improve this tomorrow?

Tomorrow Crew Longley need to continue working hard and developing the use of 3B’s before me. (Brain, Book and Buddy).

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Crew Longley’s Howl Hero for today is Kaitlynn. She has worked hard to become more independent and to keep trying, even when things are becoming tricky. Kaitlynn really is also working hard to become more confident in her work. Well Done!

Another ☀️ day in Foundation where we have been able to explore our Forest School 🌳 We have made our very own 🐦 feeders to hang in the trees to feed the 🐦

Either keep your bird feeder to hang in your garden or bring it into Foundation for the garden birds to enjoy!

We have been working hard again on our HOWL’s and how we can show we are working hard.

Working hard today were Dominic and Kyla. They worked ever so hard in our Maths session today looking at numbers 1-5. They were able to  confidently count out objects to match the the numerals and show one more! Well done little superstars 🌟 🌟

Crew Gerrard blog (22/09/2020)

Hi guys!

We’ve had another really positive day of working hard, getting smart and being kind in Crew Gerrard today. The morning started off differently, with writing where the children wrote about how their character was feeling during a journey through flowery fields. Then, after break, we moved onto reading and thought about what makes the children who they are. It was really lovely reading about what makes them who they are, such as that they care for their families, a love of sport and the fact that they love pizza – it reminded me of myself!

After reading, we moved onto consolidating our knowledge of rounding. This is something that we’re going to continue practicing, as I can see the confidence growing more and more. Keep going guys, we’ll get there!

Once lunch was over and the children had settled during their reading for pleasure, we looked into comparing and contrasting how places have changed. This involved looking and describing how major cities have changed during the past 100 years, ready to apply to how Carcroft has changed. The children loved being able to see how much Carcroft has actually changed, including looking at the street view on Google maps.

Today’s HoWL heroes were:

  • Belle for working really hard, you absolutely smashed rounding and writing today – keep going!
  • Evie for trying to get smart, you made lots of really useful contributions and I can see how much effort you’re putting into your work – well done!
  • Alicia – you could have won either, but what made me feel really proud was how Miss Laing had recognised how you listen to your peers. You give them full attention, showing that you’re ready to learn and listen. Plus, your rounding was amazing, too.

Our HoWL average was 3.2 today, which is an improvement on yesterday.

It is PE tomorrow! Keep going guys, you’re doing a great job!!

Mr G 😁
