Phonics with Suzie

In Crew Frost the children have been working very hard. During this session the children were given a choice in their choosing time to participate in a Fred-ding game with our special doll, Suzie.

The adult Freds a highlighted word from an instruction such as “Can you give Suzie a h-u-g?” and it is the children’s task to understand the instruction and complete it. The children love using their communion and language skills to tell Suzie how they are feeling, dress her in different outfits, and even show Suzie their fine motor skills by bringing her drawings they have made. Well done again, Crew Frost.

Our School Community

This week in Crew Frost, the nursery children have been learning about the term community, specifically their local community and our school community. In these images, the children are taking part in a school community walk, where they explored the school grounds, visited other classrooms, greeted teachers, and even had a sneak peek at some amazing dance routines in the hall. This was a fantastic concrete experience for the nursery children, and they especially enjoyed waving to their siblings and people they knew. They were also fascinated by the expedition displays, which sparked so many who, what, and where questions. Well done, Crew Frost, for demonstrating excellent listening skills and meeting expectations while walking around the school!

Courage.

This week we have launched our character traits within crew Frost. This week we are focusing courage. Courage for crew is a Lion character, who is brave and tries new things even when hesitant. Courage asks questions and chooses to do hard work not just easy work. To build on our courage we had some volunteers come and bake play dough! Seeing and feeling new textures can be quite a daunting thing for children, but we are so proud they dove straight in! Even sharing, taking turns, and waiting is a courageous thing to do. Well done crew Frost for trying something new.

We Stop, we look, we listen

21st November 2025Elizabeth Frost

This week crew Frost have been focusing on road safety. The children practiced using playground track, taking turns to stop, look, and listen before crossing. What a great way to build up our role play skills! We also created pictures of a lollipop lady and talked about her important role in helping people cross safely. In addition, we learned about traffic lights and zebra crossings, discussing what each color and symbol means. Well done crew Frost. We can’t wait to see you use such important skills.

Settling in to Crew McGlone

Celebrations in Crew McGlone!

Our current expedition sees us exploring celebrations, in particular birthdays. We have spent time discussing what happens at a birthday party before deciding to throw our own party! We made our own party food (ham or jam sandwiches), created paper chain decorations to decorate the classroom with, as well as making party hats to wear! At the party we played lots of party games, danced, ate our party food and had so much fun as a crew!

Little City visits Carcroft!

Crew McGlone had a visit from ‘Little City’ who turned our school hall into a… well, little city! The children were able to role play different jobs and we absolutely loved all the different props and costumes! Thank you so much to Little City for coming in and letting us have SUCH a lovely afternoon!

Using our new maths skills to make flapjacks!

As we have been looking at the number 1 in maths, we thought it would be fun to count to 1 and use these skills to create flapjacks!

We had to count out 1 heaped tablespoon of oats, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 1 teaspoon of butter. We mixed all the ingredients together and added to a bun case ready for Miss McGlone to put in the oven. We took them home to eat but they smelt delicious!

Crew building – group artwork

To continue our crew building this week, Crew McGlone have worked really hard as a crew to create a piece of artwork. We discussed how it would take 1 person a really long time to decorate the large piece of paper on their own, but if we all helped as a crew to do a little section each then it would be done much quicker. We split the paper into sections and got to work! If a section was finished, we offered to help other members of our crew with their section – continuing to work as a unit to finish our final piece. We really like our finished piece and praise how section comes together to create a lovely pattern.

Crew building!

With it being our first week back after the Christmas holidays, we have been looking at building our crew and having fun with our friends in Crew McGlone. We talked about being kind to one another and how we can do this when we are playing with toys and games in our classroom. We said that you have to talk using kind words, use kind hands, share and take turns. We put these skills into practise by playing with our friends – we played games such as Pop-Up Pirate and Shopping List, as well as building structures using magnetic tiles! It was extremely fun and we were showing really strong HOWLs – especially ‘Be Kind’.
