Paul Chrystal Author Visit (13.6.22) 📚

Today, LKS2 were very lucky to have local author Paul Chrystal lead a discussion about our Guiding Question. Mr Chrystal has published over 120 books and we wanted to get his expertise on sweets, of which he had tonnes of knowledge to offer. During the talk, Mr Chrystal looked answered the Guiding Question ‘Why is sugar not so sweet?’ through a health angle. He talked us through how sugar is not always the healthiest, even though we all love sweets.

Thanks for a great talk Mr Chrystal, I know LKS2 appreciated the knowledge and tips to enjoy sweets healthily. Check out our images below for how the talk looked! 😆

Working Scientifically in Crew Marsh

Yesterday, we completed a science experiment. We boiled water 3 times to see whether it would change states.

We found that the water evaporated through the process of boiling and turned from a liquid to a gas.

Living street badges in Crew Marsh

Look we have achieved our May badge, which is a butterfly because we have been actively travelling to school for the past month! 🦋🏃🏼🚴🏽‍♀️🛴

LKS2 – Solids, liquids and gases (17.5.22) 👨‍🔬👩‍🔬

Today, LKS2 had a great day of learning about solids, liquids and gases. We first acted out how the particles move in these different states to fully understand how they move.

We then listed all the different types of solids, liquids and gases to see what range of types they could see. After this, we completed a worksheet showing off our learning and drew a diagram of the particles. Some of us even challenged ourselves to reach green to describe how particles move!

LKS2 Fire Safety (12.5.22) 🔥

Yesterday, LKS2 enjoyed a very informative chat about fire safety. It was clear that the children already knew how to be safe if there was ever an emergency, but also they were able to learn new ideas. They learned that the fire department don’t just deal with fires, but also serious car crashes. Years 3 and 4 loved singing along to the fire safety songs. Thanks for a great session!

Slavery Source Investigation (4.5.22) 🕵️🕵️‍♂️

Today, LKS2 have been critiquing different historical sources from the past. The children looked at primary sources that Slave Traders used to sell and promote the sale of slaves right through to drawings of slave ships and human cargo. We also investigated a range of secondary sources, looking at artistic representations in slavery. We compared what it was like for African and Chinese slaves, discussing what was similar and different.

The insights were interesting and there was a buzz of discussions as we noticed, inferred and even wondered what was happening. This was a great lesson full of fantastic discussions about slavery through these valuable sources. This is helping us to understand Why sugar is not so sweet!

LKS2 Biscuit Tasting

LKS2 had a very fun lesson where they were taste testing different biscuits. The aim was to think about what types of flavours and textures we liked the most, evaluating whether we would eat them again or not and the rating out of 10. We put to test 5 different biscuits – garibaldi, custard cream, shortcake, Bourbon and malted milk. It’s fair to say there was a mix of opinions, but most loved custard creams the most. Years 3 and 4 loved sharing their opinions and debating why some biscuits were better than others.

We will now collate our data for each Crew and put them into a bar graph. Our charts will show the favourite biscuit of Crew Marsh, Flaherty and Gerrard.
